Been listening a lot to some Alimantado lately and I've been increasingly intrigued by his albums. More specifically his dub albums such as the Kings Bread Dub and In the Mix parts 1-5. But also the vocal albums.
Which ones of the dub albums are worth buying? I've got the King's Bread LP so I figure that the King's Bread Dub is going to be worthwhile judged on that alone. I've also got the In The Mix pt. 1 which I think is great. But the latter part of the series seem to be late 80's up to early 90's releases. Are they digital rhythms or 70's and early 80's rhythms? Which parts are good and which aren't?
Another thing I've been a bit perplexed by is the King's Bread and dub companion. When where they released? I've got the vocal LP on Ital Sounds which on the label it says 1979. I guess that could be right. Problem is that the dub LP says the same thing and that one features covers of other albums on the sleeve that were released in the mid 80's. This of course makes me think that both albums were released some time in the mid to late 80's.
Have the Keyman albums been reissued? How can you tell the difference between a reissue and an original?
Based on the strength of the music I'm thinking there has to be some Mantado-fans out there that can help me.

I love Tado, especially KINGS BREAD, it's underrated IMO.
I have the CD which has 3 Dubs
Love mama mama dub chapter 2
Jah love forever dub chapter 2
Babylon let I go dub chapter 2
All end with Chapter 2 ....interesting.
I wonder if they are different to the vinyl dubs ?
I don't collect vinyl so i can't help you with your questions
but I can tell you DUB STORE TOKYO has some LPs.
'LOVE IS' is a great album. "She wreng ep" is a wicked track
on the Best Dressed Chicken( aint no sunshine ) riddim!
The album has short drum segues between tracks ....funny guy Tado.
WONDERFUL TIME is a great album too.
"Tell me how the poor man get the gun" is one his best tracks ever.
I have IN THE MIX part 1 on Cd. Very sparce, slow dubs.
But that's the way I like em !
CHECK HERE TOO

Thanks for the feedback, Selecta Bing. The Wonderful Time album I know since before and I really enjoy it. Will have to check out the Love Is album too then.
Chapter 2 I would guess since they're probably seen as the second chapter to the vocal song.

Yes, I just thought they might be 2nd dub versions
due to the different titles to KINGS BREAD DUB but propbaly not.
Do you have THE PRIVILEDGED FEW
If so how is it ?

The King´s Bread LP was definitely released in 1979 (I bought it at the time).
The dub album King´s Bread Dub, though, was probably released MUCH later - 90´s or so...Maybe someone knows?
I agree that Love Is is essential.
Best, of course, are Best Dressed Chicken and Born For a Purpose/Sons Of Thunder.
Me too would like to know more about the In The Mix series!

I've got the first In The Mix which is very nice. Slow and deep. I'm thinking it's mid to late 80's mixes of early 80's songs. I've listened to In the Mix part 3 which is very nice too. Also seems to be real musicians with late 80's mixing. Slow and almost brooding with echo-laden mixes. A dense and very British feel to it. If all sets are of equal quality I really wonder why they haven't gotten more recognition. Would love to hear reviews of part 2, 4 and 5.

Yes, Part 1 is good simple dubs of Wonderful time, On the Beach, Wear you to the ball, Riding high... etc. Very few effects aside from echo with synth keys and guitar picking ala Lynn Tait.
Each track is no more than 3 minutes long. almost zero vocals.
Tk.7 has some nice bubbling keys and a one drop skank with scratchy echo effected guitar and some really good bongo playing. Yes I agree it has that British, D. Bovell sound, which I like very much.
Not a heavy Jamiacan dub feel, although I love that too.
HOUSE OF SINGLES is a nice collection of early singles by Tado when he was Prince Cool and sounding like U Roy.
The Cd has extensive liner notes...a full Bio of the good Doctor !

A few of the Keyman lp's have been repressed and are available at Ernie B's. Not sure if you are allowed to post links here but you shouldn't have any trouble finding them. I've heard the sound quality is pretty good as well but haven't actually heard for myself. Been meaning to pick some of these up recently.
Was just listening to Born For A Purpose on the way in to work this morning. Such a wicked track.

I've found the Keyman represses to be very good. I got Love Is and Born for a Purpose sometime last year. Both nice albums. I've been hoping to find the Inthe Mix series too. Friend of mine had them all back in the 80's, but I've hardly seen them since.
As for The Privileged Few, I got that when it came out in, what, '89 or so? Hadnt heard it in ages, so I just dug it out. It has some excellent moments and some weak ones as well. Nah Go Mek and Gift of God are highlights. But you should know it's a digi album, so if that alone puts you off, you can scratch it off your list. I think it's worth picking up if the price is reasonable. It's digital rhythms, but the style is more roots than dancehall (there are two DJ, dancehall style tracks, but it's mostly singing)
I'd guess the later In the Mix records are digital.
