Alimantado Keyman/Ital Sounds?

"King's Bread" and "King's Bread Dub" were originally recorded and mixed in 1977 and released in 1979 on Tado's Jamaican Ital Sounds label. The dub album came in a blank cover.

Both were rereleased from 1985 on in the forms shown on RA on a recreated Ital Sounds label while Tado had settled in England.

The "Love Is" compilation was the first release on Tado's (now based in England) new Keyman label, coming from 1983 in a style similar to "Best dressed chicken..." and "Sons of Thunder" (aka "Born for a purpose").

From 1984 on he recorded and produced in London, either in Easy Street or Ariwa Studios.

"In the Mix, Chapter 1" is the dub companion of the "Reggae Review" album. Both from 1985.

"In the Mix, Part 2" is from 1987, Part 3 from 1988, Part 4 from 1989. All in a style which points directly and heavily to the Mad Professor type of recording and mixing of these times.

Must say, I like all the dub albums, though they have their weak moments. On the other hand I never gave a damn for Tado as a singer

Most likely so. I think there were only 500 copies maximum pressed of both vocal and dub.

Thank for the highly informative post, Bellyman. Would love to find a copy of the dub album. Especially that first one. Never seen it though. Do you have it? Is the label also blank?

I don't own a copy of the original dub album. But I had the chance to do a C90-copy from the vinyl way back in 1982. If my memory serves me right, the dub had the Ital Sounds labels from the vocal album. So you really didn't know it was a dub until you played it, original JA-style

the ital doctor is of course best heard on a variety of sevens over the years - some of the best have been collected on best dressed chicken, sounds of thunder and house of singles - all essential collections for the average "tadophile"

"love is" is also an essential comp/collection and as said before the easiest way to get "she wreng up"

i like the straight singing of "kings bread" ands believe the dub has been issued at least 3 times over the years - its pretty straight a head stuff and if you like the vocal - the dub goes nicely too

must admit i find all of the other "in the mix" dub outings less than exciting - some of the other vocal LP's are frankly rather average with "reggae review" being particularly disappointing (perhaps based on what was promised by his 70's stuff)

the one bright spark of the later stuff (ie post 70's - very early 80's) is "wonderful time" (1988)with personal favourites like "tell me how the poor man get the gun"

I just realised that there's a great interview with Alimantado in the first issue of the reggaezine called *Musical Root*. It gives quite a lot of focus to his self-produced material from the early 80's to early 90's. Would love to share the interview since it's not available any longer but I don't know if it's a good idea. If anyone knows Dave Katz and could ask for his permission then I'd love to put it up for people to read.

There should be a *Google Books* of reggae literature

Just bought the UK press of Kings Bread Dub.
Really good straightforward dub, sounding late 70´s.

Interestingly, it was apparantly meant to be released as/on Keyman Records.
Matrix KM-008 is crossed out and replaced by ISDA 5001.
Compare that number with other Keyman albums:

I´d say this UK release is from 1987.
Also, inside the sleeve of my copy someone has written a date - 20.05 1987...
