Hux Brown plays guitar in my band here in the SF Bay Area! I am a singer and a guitarist as well so I understand the intrigue with guitars, amps, etc..... Hux played on virtually all the early Reggae era sessions at Beverly's behind Toots, Jimmy Cliff, Desmon Dekker, etc..... he also was on loads of late period Ska and almost all the Soul Vendors backed Studio One recordings! In those days he used mainly a Hofner Galxie but also used a gold top Les Paul later on. He favored a Fender Vibrolux and sometimes an Ampeg amp in the studio. Back i the Studio One days he used a Fender Jazzmaster but it sounded like a big thick hollow body guitar becuase the amp was distorted. must say the first rehearsal he showed up to with my group he had a BC Rich guitar and a Peavey 2 - 12 amp and got the same exact tone as he always had on every rig. It's in the hands ....... sooner or later you'll find that you can't by a tone. I must say though if you're trying to play that percolating pick guitar style ala Hux and Lyn Taitt, etc...... flatwound strings are crucial! Bless!
