DEB and Horace Andy - Reggae Superstars meet

Post by ice »

years and years ago I bought a vinyl copy of this album

http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2410

only to find out that they pressed exactly the same music on sides A and B - both have DEB and no Horace. Am I the only one with this problem or is this a general fault?

Don't know if this betters your situation (or mine) but same goes for my copy ;)

Sounds to me like a pressing error. Have a look at the matrix printing. It should have the catalogue number, possibly the pressing manufacturer's detail (usually for reggae of that period EG (Eddy Grant bought Island records old pressing plant and was a staple reggae label customer) and A and B depending on what side is which. If you have both saying A or B you have been unlucky. I've had a few discs which had two labels printed on the same side. but the only discs I've come across with both sides the same have been promo dj singles, never a lp.

I would have been p***ed off and bought them back to the seller. Unless it says on the outer packaging that both sides were the same I'm sure that's a pressing error. Having got the Congoes tune, I'd be pushed to bring it back to the vendor though, especially if it was the last copy!

Ice, it would seem like someone from DEB music gave the presser two masters of the same side in error. I would hazzard a guess that your copy escaped onto the market? Normally mistakes like that get pulled and disposed of. Anyone out there got a correctly pressed copy of this lp or were they all pressed like that?

over at the Blood & Fire board somebody said he had a correctly pressed copy...honestly, I don't remember why I didn't bring the record back to the vendor when I initially bought it, that must have been 20+ years ago

Just to clear some detail this is an english pressing I am talking about, not a jamaican one where you can't hide from errors.

I bought my copy new in 1984, on original release. The store I bought it from had only this copy and was unable to get another one, that's why I kept mine.

Look on a possible bright side to it Ice. There could be some value in that rare pressing that you've got. Just don't expect to retire and live a life of luxury on the proceedings lol!

Picked this album up in my local British Heart Foundation shop a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to play it. I will let you know.......
