That's what I ended up doing as well! The rip of the new york early 80's pressing ended up sounding much better than the CD

In response to your question I only tend to pick up rips of music / albums that have never been released on CD.

If a CD issue has been released I always take that avenue as a first option and try to find a copy either from a shop or online.

As I stated in the original post I did previously own a CD issue which from memory sounded far better that the Studio One issue I now have.

Picking up a rip is an easy option but for me personally is not really a rewarding or fulfilling experience.

But thanks to all who have responded.

Hi Dave,

I was't suggesting you pick up a rip that someone else has made, and I don't think anyone else was either. Just that I prefer to listen to a recording I made of my vinyl copy of this album, when away from my record player, than the CD copy I also have. In fact I made a point of picking up the NY pressing of it for this purpose after a mention of its sound quality on the BAF board years (and years) ago.

Hi Daniel

Unfortunately, I don`t have access to a copy of the vinyl to rip onto CD. But I do know there are decent CD copies on the market so I will eventually track one down :)

Also I am not knocking owning rips of vinyl albums, infact I have been fortunate enough to have met a few people on this site who over the years have supplied me with countless rips of music that has never been issued on CD.

To these people I will be eternally grateful for giving me the opportunity to have music that I would not otherwise own.

Dave
