Why Not Afrikah?

Post by Swahilian »

I give thanks Jah for me being a part of RA'
i thought it wont but now i'm in it, so thanks to the Admin too for allowing me to be part and parcel of RA' this speaks nice to my ears.
After all that i could first contribute to is commonly the same as compared to others have been or continuously posting, I'n'I as among the greatest fans and lovers of Reggae, Rastafarians and Its Culture We have been disappointed with how it is here in Afrikah.
It have been noted and many of us seen videos, music and lyrics of most Reggae musicians talkin' n' reciting each and evriting about Afrikah and its culture and how do they wish to be part of it as they call it their promise land 'zion'
Despite of all that there's a little number or fewer artists who visits for musical tours in Afrikah and if they did it is repeateadly to the same country and mostly in Ethiopia, South Africa, Ivory Coast and Kenya rarely.
We are not forcing that they visit here (eg. TANZANIA) but equality in their tours must be considered to satisfy all of us.
Lastly i wish all of them on best doing and improvement on this issue to those who read or post in RA to export this I'n'I from the forgotten Africans (MUSICAL WISE)

iley bless brethren.
let me say like this, I hardly think that artists will be reading this website, but generally I can only tell you that mostly the managers create the route and if those managers are not sure about a deal they will probably not involve themself into unknown things, those managers also could be just working for money it no matter that the artist is a Ras they don't need to be a Ras so they do not see the business the way the artist could see and would tell the artist like "sorry i couldnt get a good deal". most artist dont know nothing about management and they need to trust their manager, even how much times same artists complain bout they got rob by managers. its all a mess and hard to get through sometimes, but I can only advise you to email some of the promoters/managers straight like:

http://dancehalljamjam.net/contact (cocoa tea/roaring lion/JAM JAM contact)

http://capletonmusic.com/news/?page_id=10 (capleton/david house contact)

http://www.myspace.com/bigbadsax1 (dean fraser contact)

and the rest you can look up yourself.

fact is 1 man can't make no artist come, at least if him not a richman.
artist will come if someone will guarantee them a bargain.
reggae is an excitement so maybe you should turn promoter and link up with a investor like a cellfone company in your town and tell them you want to make money
this way you can get any artist to come over, when the route is laid the money thing will ease off and artist will start deal with you seriously and not only for money but money is the key to everything nowadays and even in past and the people moving with the artist all of them want money too but every artist is different jus try your thing I hope it work out for Tanzania, long time I know people there take reggae seriously.

It's all about the money artists go where the money is, managers/agents are out to get the maximum money, but so are the artists.

I've been involved in promoting and I can say that most Jamaican acts want too much money to perform here, you just can't charge a fair price for tickets and break even, this is partly because European, Japanese and US promoters/festivals pay "too much", so the live Reggae circuit in the UK is a shadow of what it used to be, especially outside London.

Another factor is that in Europe the artists can find backing musicians without the cost of flying in a Jamaican band, sorting out permits etc., if someone put on a gig in Tanzania they'd have to fly in an entire band, pay that band at foreign rates, profide all the backline and maybe even fly in an engineer the artist trusted.

With specific regard to Tanzania, security, tax and work permit issues may also be factors.

My advice is if you have money and connections and see an artist playing South Africa or Kenya get in touch with their management, you might be able to arrange a Tanzanian date.

Are you a promoter? If so, are you still promoting and where?

I personally have had bad experiences with promoters in Ghana and Gambia in that they got all the info for a show and collected the money from a cell phone company/sms cards and did not send the deposit etc., event hough contracts were signed. The promoter just wanted the signed contract to collect the money for and turned around and told the sponsor/phone co that the money was sent and artist did not come through.

However, I am still looking for honest promoters who I can work with. Not killing them with prices, as the artist need to touch base with his fans; need to get his music heard; and we want to have a continued work relationship with our African promoters.

Looking for a positive response.
