Black Uhuru and Thievery Corporation?

Post by PloKoon13 »

This could well be some sort of tagging error on LastFM or Youtube's part, but there seems to be a collaboration between Black Uhuru and electronic act Thievery Corporation on the song 'Boof n' Baff n' Biff' (and perhaps others).

Naturally as a big fan of both this was big news to me and I was looking to see if anyone on here could verify that these two artists did actually collaborate at some point. I can't actually seem to find any proper information outside of the name of the song on LastFM or Youtube; in addition, sometimes it is tagged as 'Thievery Sound System' or just Black Uhuru alone, which is what made me skeptical, but 'Black Uhuru and Thievery Corporation' is the most popular one.

I'd be very grateful if anyone could enlighten me.

Thievery Corp did a remix on this Dubmission 2 compilation:

I like Thievery and new approaches, but found that CD uninteresting. Well known Island tunes remixed by triphop producers, who mainly just add breakbeats and some dub type effects.

It's good to spread awareness of the music, but they don't enhance the originals much, especially compared to a real dub version.

If you haven't heard Black Uhuru - The Dub Factor, check out that treatment of Boof 'n' Baff 'n' Biff also.

Respects still.

I've had that CD for years, thanks for reminding me! Some very good tracks IMHO, but most are awful.

Cottonbelly's remix of Night Nurse is lovely, very different, but very respectful. Cottonbelly is Sade's bass player I believe.

Also like the version of Burning Spear's I & I Survive, top draw.

There are a small number of Cottonbelly 12"s from quite some time back, with some interesting stuff on. Edge Test label.
