this LP grows on you.

Ok so I gave in and bought number 276 of 500 and I have to agree it does grow on you the more you listen to it.

I have to say I’m glad I did, it’s not a typical Scratch record, it has a really nice mellow pop soul reggae flavour, very mellow almost cheesy horn parts.

I think it’s a stunning Perry production, the weakest point for me is Candy’s singing her signing seems a bit flat and emotionless, for example ‘Breakfast in bed’ is meant to be a very sexy seduction almost slutty song, but her heart just doesn’t seem in it.

I think I prefer side two (with the obvious exception of Ice cream which is pointless crap) side two is mellower and Candy’s singing is better. I completely love ‘When The Big Day’ I played that 3 times yesterday.

I have accused Trojan in the past of constantly re-releasing the same old crap (i.e. how many copies of ‘Liquidator’ and ‘Double Barrel’ Do you need? This is however a quality release from Trojan, beautifully packaged nice thick bit of vinyl and the sound quality is beautiful. So Nice work Trojan, lets have some more!

Overall a lovely understated production from Perry.

Two things puzzle me with this release:

- I bought number 37X something a month ago and seen
your number it looks like they are printing a second
500 limited edition. If you reckon that they also
start by selling 1.

- If you listen closely it seems or Scratch or Trojan
cut and shortend the song when the big day came.

But maybe I got trust issues.

Pretty common among those Japanese limited editions. A marketing gimmick, to make you buy it quickly or you think it might be sold out. Or the first 500 are 'limited' numbers and 6 months or a year later it comes out in unlimited numbers...(or any variation on that)
or they give those records random numbers 1 to 500 multiple times.

I do hope they press more than 500! If they do, they make more profit and will release more great, unreleased or rare stuff like this. I dont mind the trick with the limited edition, even if it is a form of betrayel. By the way: I dont think they sell number by number! They geat the load from the prrssing plant and will shelve them however.

By the way: I have nr. 1002/1000 out of the limited vp joe-gibbs-singles-box which should be limited to 1000. Ha ha ha, it couldnt be more obvious!

Plus they would surely have broken some sort of trades description act… it simply wouldn’t be worth it for them to fake it, 2 things cannot be hidden long, the sun and the truth

Not really if you know that they are shipped worldwide. Not every copy ends up in your own town or even country. How do you know what someone in Japan,Puerto Rico or whatever country receives (in which some cases people don't even speak English... how can you find out that..)

I bought this very quickly upon release and ended up with 490/500. I assumed that they were probably sent out in reverse number order (which makes sense really if you think about the process of hand numbering)....

If it's a "pretty common" amongst Japanese releases, there must be many examples you could provide. How about a few?

It's always fair to question whether something is truly "as advertised", because people are being asked to pay a premium based on it's limited availability.

But IMO it's not fair to accuse Trojan (or "the Japanese") of shady business practises unless there is some sort of evidence to support these accusations.
