Singers Turn DJ and DJ's that turn Singers

I know there have been some singers that have put out some songs inna DJ style and some DJ's that have went into singing. If you can name some artist and there songs, that would be great.

Singers that touch the DJ style:
Linval Thompson (Murder, Long time Me Nah Rub you Inna Dance)
Little John (saturday at the movies, gunman connection, and some others)
Tiger (originally was a good singer when he first started before he turn dj)
Madoo (44 magnum)
don carlos (passing glance dj version)
Eek a Mouse (Rypton Hylton started as a singer, but as a Eek a Mouse, he had his own original take as a dj, but more like Skatting style singing.)
Hugh Mundell sometime DJing as Jah Levi

I'm sure there are other artist I forgot to mention, I just can't remember right now, because I'm at work and don't want to get caught not doing work. ha ha ha


DJ turn Singer or did some tunes as a singer
DJ Trinity became Junior Brammer when he became a singer, sounding like Dennis Brown

more of like the current dancehall singer like Vegas did good as a singer.

Puddy Roots used to DJ before he changed to singing, as did Dr Alimantado, who started as a DJ and did a bit of both later in his career.

It's hard to say that Madoo was one or the other, as his (pioneering sing-jay) style sort of straddled the line. Same with Eek-A-Mouse, he always kept the same style as a sing-jay.

I wouldn't put Carlos in the same category, as most singers during that era threw in a few DJ phrases periodically. He was never truly a DJ who switched forms like some of the other examples. The occasional "ribbit" or "right" doesn't make you a DJ. I wouldn't actually claim that someone was a "DJ" unless they actually worked a sound at some point.

Yes, Nooks DJ'd first as PM, then reverted to his real name as a singer in the early 80's.

Well, I should have phrased it differently. Singers that have done Songs in a DJ style or turned from singer to DJ and vice versa.

in regards to Madoo, he is a singer without out a doubt, but he did do a song in a DJ style called 44 Magnum on the flip side of Young Girl that he does purely singing on a Makusa 12" disco.

and as Eek A Mouse he did start off as a singer named Rypton Hylton, doing songs like "No Wicked Can't Reign", "Creation", "My Fathers Land"

DOn Carlos is definately singer with the waterhouse wail, but he did do a song in a DJ fashion called, "DJ Version Passing Glance", on the Just a Passing Glance album.

I do remember Puddy Roots as a DJ on sometimes spelled Paddy Roots on some Joe Gibbs discos.

Currently in Athens,Greece so I'm writing from my phone. Maddo also chats with Django on his General Echo song (Darace 12"). Killer disco.

Barry Brown chats on a CAN compilation. Wayne Jarrett on Wackies. Puddy Roots probably is Bunny Lion. Jah Batta is singing nowadays. As is Rappa Robert. Sandeeno used to chat as did Echo Minott. Etc etc. Can sit down and write more examples with titles when I return to Sweden again in a couple of days.

yeah, i want to change the subject line to Singers that DJ and DJs that Sing.

but yeah, I remember Echo Minott doing a doing a DJ tune called "emilio Bimbo", nice track.

Kalcidis, nice info. I want to dig a bit further to see if in fact Puddy Roots went by Bunny Lion. Is that the name he is going by now?
