GOOD HORNS IN DUB??

Re: GOOD HORNS IN DUB??
I can see your point in a way as the horns are rather spared from getting a dub mix down (at least from what I remember) but still several tracks have typical mixing techniques I'd say constitute a dub track. Perhaps the term instrudub works fine here?

I think instudub is exactly it, dub mix on the riddims with the horns given room to stretch out but still with plenty f/x.kalcidis@kalmar wrote:I can see your point in a way as the horns are rather spared from getting a dub mix down (at least from what I remember) but still several tracks have typical mixing techniques I'd say constitute a dub track. A more traditional dub LP with some flashes of excellent brass is this Gussie-produced set
[cover=7229,3885]
There are still some copies of the Auralux reissue around, beautiful sound quality on it.

If you love trombone:
Lee Perry-Musical Bones.
Instrudub with the great Vin Gordon stretching out on every track!
Jimmy Radway's Dub I has lots of good trombone as well.
Revolutionaries meets Agrovators has lots of horns too.
For straight instrumentals, I love the Sound Dimension comps on Soul Jazz.

The second half of the Eek A Mouse 12" Anarexol on Real Rock is really good.

Re: GOOD HORNS IN DUB??
all the early Revolutionaries rockers stuff on Channel One/Disco Mix/Hitbound, etc. - the 7" singles like "MPLA", "Earthquake", "Death Sentence", etc. all contain memorable horn parts, in part because the rhythms are reworkings of proven Studio One tunes.
also the flip side of Dave Robinson's "Chaga Chaga Warrior" has a great dub with a killer horn riff - another Channel One production from '77.
