did Auralux ever release this 12" EP?

Post by hot milk »

listening to their incredibly good Fat Man Dub Contest release, the CD includes 4 bonus songs to the original 8 of the LP. the liner notes say that all 4 tunes were previously unreleased, and that they released a 12" EP of these 4 tunes at the same time they re-released the LP/CD. does anyone own this 12" EP? from the Googling I've been doing tonight, I don't see it listed in any discography, nor can i get an out of date listing on any site. a definite missed opportunity if they never got around to issuing that, these cuts are AMAZING. at the moment they're the best songs on the disc (this CD has been getting some heavy rotation lately).

Wow! I've also listened a lot to this album lately. I've got the album on Star but downloaded the CD to have in my iPhone. Was surprised about the four extra tracks and really really enjoyed them. To know that a 12" dub EP was in the pipeline sounds great but it is a real pity it never materialised (at least I've never seen it).

hey kal! long time no see. yeah been figuring i'll have to track down the orig press on Star (cuz ya know, that's how these things roll sometimes...). so strange they would mention a 12" EP is coming but never release them. it doesn't seem to be a matter off it being the end of their life, either, as there were a number of releases that came after this one before they eventually faded away (sad). would love to have these on wax! i don't have it on hand, but i think it's Feel Jammy's Spirit (?) that has the moody trombone throughout, giving some real atmosphere.

I remember the time when that Auralux LP came out (2006/2007) As far as I remember no 12" came out of those tunes back then. Don't think it's very hard to find an original press on Star. Saw it a couple of times in second hand shops during the years..

Yes, mate. Long time indeed. Been having so much to do lately that I haven't even un-packed my record collection since I put it in boxes more than a month ago. Only music I listen to is through my iPhone.

Another dub LP that has done the heavy rounds at home (once again on my iPhone) is Ranking Barnabas - Cold Crusher. I traded myself a copy of it some time ago (managed to do a rip just a day or two before I started re-painting the house) and have been listening to it constantly. Nice dub of Freddie McKay's Teardrops and Mr. Brown's Babylon Gates (Express 10" -- quite a tough cut of Open the Gates) on it.

Just had a listen to these 4 tracks, didn't know about them before, wicked dubs.
First one have some Alton Ellis vocals over typical Jammy production from the time...never heard this riddim before but would be very interested to know whats the vocal cut ? here it is :

Second one is the dub version to Enforcer 'Ride On Marcus' - same as on the 7" as far as i can tell.

Third one have vocals from Delroy Wilson & some nice trombone work, sounds like Jammy on the controls/production again...might be available on Pressure Sounds' Delroy set ?

Fourth dub sounds very familiar, quite sure i have it somewhere...heavy militant drumming.

Another great dub albums from the time are Fatman Vs. Shaka In Dub Confrontation (Live & Love) & Fatman Presents Unleashed Dub (Fatman), very similar production to the above set, worth seeking out.

@kal - ya know that cold crusher is one i've never gotten to know. i held it in my hands at deadly dragon back in 2005 and jeremy was offering it for $35 but i declined as i already had a large stack of tunes to take away. been kicking myself ever since. but you're not the first person to speak highly of it. will need to check for it one of these fine days.

@barak - hail the man!! long time, friend. how's things you're side? very nice call on the enforcer dub, will need to find that in boxes and give a listen, thanks for that. can't place the riddim on the first of the 4 tunes, but that's definitely cornell campbell's voice not alton's. i'd know cornell anywhere. :) i too would love to know the vocal, i'm definitely something of a cornell nut, will need to track it down. great percussion also (as most of jammy's tunes from the period do). i don't have the delroy/pressure sounds cd so don't know if that tune you mention is on there, but the liner notes to this auralux release quite rightly says it's a version of the wailers' put it on. really love that trombone line. and thanks for those other dub lp recommendations, i'm not familiar with those, must check. hope you, the lady, and the cats are all well in 2012! :)
