I Roy has a better voice and in general the better riddims and lyrics.
U Roy was more important for the total DJ development.
So concerning importance for reggae music, U Roy is king. As who is the better DJ I prefer I Roy. See the arguments stated. Remember it is a matter of taste. And that cannot be discussed.

Re: URoy vs IRoy
Very lame! How many "bum diddley widdley" lyrics does URoy have? Right, just as many!congo bunny wrote:yes I Roy truly a clever man, I particularly like his lyric that goes "bum diddley widdley piddley etc" on the album he did with Dennis Bovell
Sorry but I Roy is totally over rated
Comparing lyrics between URoy and IRoy definately makes IRoy the more clever DJ.
And the "Whap'n Bap'n" album I Roy did with Dennis Bovell is not a good album to get to know I Roy. Try "Presenting I Roy" or "Hotter Yatta". URoy is great, but IRoy is at least on the same level as URoy, and IMO IRoy is the better DJ.

I honestly find I Roy boring. Presenting I roy is dull I don't think I've listened to it more than once..... Why are people on this forum always surprised when there is a thread comparing artists, or asking what you think of an album and someone then offers their 'honest opinion' they get upset? Your allowed to have an opinion in this forum, but only if you agree with the majority.
I think u roy is better than I Roy

I'm not upset with you at all. You are entitled to your own opinion, always.
The thing I'm aiming at is your remark, which makes no sense.
Other than that, your opinion is fine by me, it's a good thing to have different opinions, it would be a dull world if we would all like the same artists.
There's really no pun intended, I only think that your remark was out of place.

I don't like any of 'm. I understand their reggae-historical importance, but i don't listen to it for fun. DJ's from those eras sound dated, singers don't (for me). I also don't listen to Dillinger, Trinity, Big Youth, for the same reasons.

Would like to recommend two I-Roy albums.
Musical Shark Attack + Heart Of A Lion. Top riddims and conscious toasting.
Enjoy some great I-Roy!

I have to agree that some of DJ stuff does sound very dated now, but I think some of the dj stuff also remains timless. I too would rather listen to singers than DJ's I have to be in the right mood for DJ'sDVC wrote:I don't like any of 'm. African Descendant by I-Roy is a cool track. Also the Cant Conquer Rasta lp is worth getting, backed by Aggrovators with Jammy on the dubside.
