heart versionof congos original
Hi, how can I hear the original first version of heart of the Congos before mr perry added all the effects for the "remix"?I understand very few original vinyls exist, was it ever issued in its original form as a repress or on cd?

Fyi it's so much better than the version blood and fire re-issued. If you can get it you should!
I think some label did a bootleg re-release of it on cd a while ago don't know what the label was though
honestly its so much better than the famous mix that most people know.
Its not wildly different but it has a far more roots feel than than the perryesque mix on blood and fire release
I never listen to my blood and fire copy now I have that first mix

The original mix has not been (officially) rereleased,
but don´t worry - it´s not nearly as good as the remix!
The B&F pressing is the one to get!!
However, it´s fun listening to the original mix and comparing to the remix.
The original mix sounds "empty" and somewhat unfinished...
Maybe you can find it somewhere if you google?

Oh the original is so much better than the b&f release it feels more like a reggae record than a lee perry record if you know what I mean.
When I first heard the original record I remember thinking 'this is what always hopped this record would sound like'

I think the original release was "reissued" as a cd-r on the non official Cornfed label. Check out discogs.Dubbaddikt wrote:Hi, how can I hear the original first version of heart of the Congos before mr perry added all the effects for the "remix"?I understand very few original vinyls exist, was it ever issued in its original form as a repress or on cd?

I like the original mix better. I don't want to hear cow noises in reggae.

The cow is actually one of the Congos. Seriously.star wrote:I like the original mix better. I don't want to hear cow noises in reggae.
Which Perry track was it that had flushing toilets on it, btw?

David Katz says it's Watty Burnett doing the over used cow noise.Funky Punk wrote:star wrote :I like the original mix better. I don't want to hear cow noises in reggae.
The cow is actually one of the Congos.
Which I never really thought was a cow noise until I read Katz to me it sounded more like Kingston screaming with pain at all the death and violence.... So it kinda spolit it for me that everyone else thinks its a cow. I do wonder if it was really originally meant to be a cow or if it suits Perry's mad persona to say its a cow.
But back to congos, the original mix shows how good a producer Perry is and it gives us a glimpse of how his records might have sounded if off island record labels haddn't encouraged him to be this 'mad man' such a shame we encouraged him to be 'mad' .
I suspect people who love Perry first and reggae second will prefer the B&F mix and people who love reggae first and Perry second will prefer the first gimmick free mix.

Re: heart versionof congos original
I got a recording of the original release. I personally think it´s crap compared to the later remix.. because it´s rare does it make it killer or better like some people here seem to think.
To me it sound bare and unfinished..
