Super ape pressings

Hi everybody,

I have the clocktower reissue of the Lee Perry Super Ape LP, and I recently bought the 1976 Island press.

The Island LP have sound quality is of course better, but I am very surprized that there is not so much difference between theses 2 LP.

For exemple I compared King Tubby meet rockers uptown Yard International press from 1977 and the Clocktower reissue, it was day and night!

So, I wonder if someone has compared the Island press and the Upsetter press of Super Ape, and if there is a difference...
And in general if Island reggae press (I don't have others) are not so good comparing to the jamaican press.

As far as I know, the only real difference between *Scratch The Super Ape* (Upsetter) and *Super Ape* (Island) is the track order. (See the [Roots Archive listing](http://www.roots-archives.com/release/298)). *Super Ape* is definitely one of [my favourite](http://www.upsetter.net/scratch/station ... perape.htm) Lee Perry albums.

And 'Patience Dub' runs a little (45 secs) longer.

clocktower is of course a great label with some essential releases over the yrs - the earlier the release the better in terms of sound quality - some of them like "rockers almighty dub" based on bunny lee / tubby's tune re-edited for release stand strong as classic dub releases

the pablo issue tubbys meets the rockers uptown - originally on a green clocktower label was the very first issue of the LP - although by all accounts not licensed for release by Pablo - who then promptly photocopied the cover(you can still see CT 085 clocktowere in the bottom left hand corner) added "satta" and released it himself in JA on yard

I suspect one reason (even when you listen to the first pressings of both clocktower and yard releases)that the JA sounds better is that it may have come directly from the masters whereas the clocktower may have been 2nd generation stuff

Yes jayb, I think too that the difference between JA and UK press starts from the tapes.

But in my case, it is a recent Clocktower reissue, not from the 70's.
And nowadays Clocktower press quality is usually poor, while it could be fine in the good old days.

That's why I was surprized...
