Flabba is the best ever player.....for the Radics!
Robbie is the best player ever..... for Sly and Robbie !
I love them both, same goes for and all the ones mentioned: Familyman, LLoyd Parks, Boris Gardiner, Ranchie, Brevette, Jackie Jackson, Fully, Bagga Walker, Val Douglas, Brian Atkinson, Leroy Sibbliss, Glen Brownie, Howard Bedesse, Chris Meredith, Larry Silvera and loads more, specially outside JA.

A key difference is that Robbie played other "historical" stuff with other drummers: Carlton Barrett, Santa, Horsemouth...

So what if he played with other drummers, so did Flabba! And another thing, yes Robbie did appear on albums of other genres artist, but what does this have to do with him being ''better''? There was also a mention that Robbie came first and that Flabba is not very active from 1986. This also doesn't mean anything. He (Flabba) has done his jobe and when he didn't have anymore ideas he moved. I can't say this for Robbie. From my point of view the things he was doing in 80's with Sly Dunbar and which should be regarded as some kind of new direction of reggae are just, sorry, rubish to me. Now I love his early work very much in fact I regard him as one of the greatest reggae bassists, but there is a big part of his work I don't admire at all. For Flabba I can say that most everything he made is just splendid for me!

Cool, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I certainly don't want to get into any drama over a question as subjective as this one.

I've worked with both of them in my productions and I love and respect them both.

Exactly....this is getting a bit silly.

You can't compare a good wine with a good champagne or with a good cognac......there are 3 different drinks (even if they come from the same fruit) and have their own taste and flavours.

That was my point!

Who is better is a pointless and unanswerable question. How do they differ and what do you like about each and why, or even who do you prefer and why, can be reasonable and interesting to talk about.

Don't get me wrong, I was just saying what I like about each of them. It's only my point of view.

Another great jamaica bass player who always gets forgotten is Maurice Roberts. He played on almost every Gaylads song, then Conscious Minds, and went on working for Perry. He unfortunately stopped playing years ago to concentrate on his singing, but I still hope he'll pick up his bass again, for he's absolutely wicked !
