Nice one DWick

You can't go passed the Godfather of Reggae music,
CURTIS MAYFIELD.
Minstrel and Queen aka Queen Majesty ( Classic )

The Impressions was THE group that most of the Jamaican Trios modelled themselves on, especially the Waliers.

Lee Perry was a big fan.
Gypsy Woman

Mick, I admit your first podcast was my inspiration for making my own soul/reggae mixes. Haven't heard the second one so I'll be sure to check it out. Suprised you put Johnny Clarke's Bring it on home over the Silvertones.

Here's a few non-soul covers I love:
Peter, Paul, Mary- Leaving on a jet plane Vs David Isaacs
Simon & Garfunkel- Only living boy in NY Vs Tennors- Weather report
Casinos- Then u can tell me goodbye Vs Pat Kelly
Drifters- On broadway Vs Dave Barker
Everly Bros- Cathy's clown Vs Jimmy London
Beegees- How deep is ur love Vs Inamans

- I would love to get a copy of Up on the roof if anyone can get me one. Anyone know who sings it? Was it really The Upsetters?

@Mick:
I heard of your soul podcasts but never actually gave them a listen (shame on me!) :)
I did some 'research' on Perry tunes myself some years ago and I believe I can give you some more titles for another Soul/Perry podcast.
Unless of course you haven't revealed your complete list yet yourself. ;)
I'll post it when I'm home.

Bob Dylan's "I shall be released" is covered several times: Most famous version by The Heptones (Party Time album), Jacob Miller does an even better job (Jacob "Killer" Miller album) and the best one I know is Keith Hudson's version (Flesh Of My Skin Blood Of My Blood album):

Looks like this thread died. Thanks to all who gave me suggestions. Was hoping for the Perry list from the Moderator; it would save me tons of time digging through my stuff. Here's a last few suggestions for anyone who is interested:

Impressions- I gotta keep on movin Vs Bob Marley
Temptations- Cloud nine Vs Carl Dawkins
Supremes- Someday we'll b together Vs Marvels
Nina Simone- To love somebody Vs Busty Brown
Gene Chandler- Man's temptation Vs Keith & Tex
Smokey & the Miraces- Swept for u baby Vs Tamlins

Big ups to artists who made many appearances on my covers sets:
Busty Brown
Alton Ellis
Pat Kelly
George Faith
Dave Barker
