Can't Stop Cocoa Tea VP reissue
Just a warning to those who might be interested. I bought the newly reissued vinyl of this killer lp the other day. It's on VP. It sounds like utter crap. I don't how you make something that was recorded so well sound so awful, but VP appears to have figured it out.

Hi Flashman
I have this on a VP CD that came out some years ago and it sounds fine to my ears.
Its a bit low volume wise but the sound quality itself is very good.

My label says VPRL 1021. I'm not sure exactly when this was done but just saw it appear on EB the other day, then picked it up when I was in LA a couple days ago.
If you have an iPod, have you ever set the EQ to Bass Booster and it sounds fine on earbuds since they need the bass boost, but when you put it through a stereo it sounds all digitally distorted?
Well, that's what this record sounds like; the bass is all distorted. I thought maybe it was to do with my turntable but no other records do this -except the VP reissue of Java Java Java Java! So I don't know, either VP is doing some horrible mastering on their vinyl or there something weird about my needle ? Can't comprehend.

Was a thread over at BAF on the sound quality of the reissue so it probably isn't your needle.

Thanks for pointing that out. Well at least I know never to buy another VP reissue on vinyl. Luckily as you point out, it's not a real expensive original to seek out!
How does Mr Coco Tea compare? Do you know?

I haven't heard Mr. Coco Tea, but I do have Sweet Sweet Coco Tea which shares 4 tracks with Mr. Coco Tea (not sure if they're the same mix). Sweet Sweet Coco Tea is a fine, laid-back set with Sylvan Morris & Dean (?) on mixing duties. Not as great as Weh Dem A Go Do, but recommended still.

I can't believe they let this out. I just got it in the post yesterday. I listened to the first track and then put it away. This LP is unlistenable. It makes your system sound like you have a bad cartridge. VP's repress are too hit-and-miss - even their Greensleeves 12" revives sound poor. I doubt I'll buy another new release from VP.
