I don't think so - no real difference between the original JA release (Super Eight) and the Island version (To Be A Lover), other than the track order. And the Hip-O version has the extended mix of "To Be A Lover" as a bonus track!Rootsman wrote:So is there any difference in mix between this CD and the Hip-o-select CD? Or are they exact same with just different play order

Thanks Mick, man the thought of those unreleased albums makes me so excited, for you as one of the worlds biggest Perry fans, it must drive you mad.... Do you think they survived? Could they be burried in the back garden, or do you think they are in Switzerland? I guess the truth is that they are gone, but its nice to dream. Guideline is wicked trackMick Sleeper wrote:Congo Bunny wrote :Weren't they supposed to be in the middle of another album when Perry torched the Ark? Is that where 'there's a train' and 'guideline' came from. I wonder if any of those tapes made it through.....
Apparently an entire album was recorded, but other than "Guide Line", none of the tracks have seen the light of day. Junior Murvin also cut a second album with Scratch, but other than a few lightweight tunes like "Let's Fall In Love" showing up, it also remains unreleased.
Interesting how Faith cut a somewhat light album with Lee Perry and then (if "Guide Line" is any indication) did something more rootsy; with Junior Murvin, it seems like it was the other way around!

they are still around. A friend of mine got several tapes. He bought them from a homeless sound engineer in the early 90s. He was offering them from a suitcase next to a highway. 50 dollar per tape. Not George Faith though but another big name that recorded there.Congo Bunny wrote:Mick Sleeper wrote :Congo Bunny wrote :Weren't they supposed to be in the middle of another album when Perry torched the Ark? I remember hearing a tape with a few song rehearsals on it. Although not noticable, it was said the recording was done in the Black Ark. If so, it seemed that George Faith was working on more material for a possible next album.
Maybe one day, someone at Island finds a few gems in their vaults.

Well, I think the idea that there are master tapes buried in Scratch's backyard is definitely a myth!Congo Bunny wrote:Do you think they survived? Care to elaborate? That story sounds a little far-fetched.drive instigna wrote:they are still around. A friend of mine got several tapes. Got my copy earlier in the week, have to say the sound quality is pristine.
Nicely packaged, although without any history, not that that matters these days with it all on the net or in Katz's book, or Mick's website
I had forgotten/not realized that this was a 1977 release, I'd assumed it was a bit later
I'd also forgotten just how pounding the bass is in this release, the whole album throbs

Don't worry, there is no chance to sell it as an original, because it's only a CD.drive instigna wrote:How nasty that it comes with exactly the same artwork. People try to re-sell those things as being original. Seen that many time.
But generally it's true, that they more and more imitate the original artwork and some crooks try to benefit from ripping off collectors that way.
