I love dub music so much, though the thread is for overrated reggae record, i really can't sink into Scientist at King Tubby's album & Mad Professor's stuff, maybe i have very limited knowledge of his music.

for some reason that album is always over priced. At first I was dissapoited with it but it getw better with more listens. The main problem it has is that the synths sound so dated nowFunky Punk wrote:Pablo Moses - Pave The Way
I paid more than I normally would for a CD to get this on the strength of the positive reviews and people raving about it after I heard it was being reissued - and because I'd liked 'Revolutionary Dream' so much.
I thought that it absolutely sucked

I just can't understand Roots Radics 80's dub albums... I love them as a backing band, but listening to Flabba Holt and Style Scott for 45 minutes is just too much for me!

I don't know if that was the intent, but I find dub albums featuring the Radics to be quite relaxing. Especially with headphones on.MatejkoFarI wrote:I just can't understand Roots Radics 80's dub albums... Culture (two seven clash) and Israel Vibration donnot get me excited. But I respect them and allot of other people seem to enjoy them.
The overrated factor in most cases are the press or collectors/musiclovers with very strong dominated opinions on Forums like this. Donnot believe everything you hear. Two seven clash can be a key point in reggae history. What do I know? It is just an opinion of one person.

I must say, I have a very special relation with Two sevens clash! The first time I heard it, I was just wtf is this?! I found it as boring and as irritating as hell. Then there was one time we took shrooms with friends, I said, let's give it a try and from that time, this is one of my Top 5 reggae records ever! It's just soo trippy and mystical! (the same is with Baldhead Bridge). But I'm wandering... Did everyone who praise Two sevens, did that?:DSiegi wrote:Culture (two seven clash) and Israel Vibration donnot get me excited. I love this thread, so many WTF-moments.MatejkoFarI wrote:I just can't understand Roots Radics 80's dub albums... I love them as a backing band, but listening to Flabba Holt and Style Scott for 45 minutes is just too much for me!
Early 80s Roots Radics Riddims (dub or not) is just my favorite "sub-genre" of Music I guess. I could listen to them 365/24/7 and forever.
Natty Dread:
Not my favorite Wailers LPs, but most overrated ever? No. Bellyful and Revolution are so absolute killer imho.
Two Sevens Clash:
Heard it years ago, kinda liked it but never understood that hugh hype. Maybe I need to hear it again (without shrooms this time

I think I listened to 'Two Sevens Clash' originally (years and years ago) because I read that the record had been one of The Clash's big influences.
Not really in a musical sense at all. Though I suppose that the song '1977' has the same sort of vibe to it, lyrically. Sort of.

(no, it's not true that they named themselves after the album by the way - they were called 'The Clash' before the Culture record came out)

Re: Most Overrated Reggae Record
i know opinions are like a**holes and all that, but those Everton Dacres 45s that demand so much money on ebay and elsewhere (jah jah a come and jah jah people). the dubs are fine, nothing special, but his voice is really quite poor. and on one of those songs he's singing about humpty dumpty, etc etc. come on, i can't imagine playing that for friends and being happy about it.
i know i'm pissing on some people's 'grail' tunes, but they are just two examples of tunes that i classify as "i know i'm supposed to like these but i just can't bring myself to like them." i'd pay a few bucks for them just to have the dubs, but since they always go big, i guess that won't happen. i suppose someone like digikiller would make a lot of folks happy by reissuing them, and that would be just fine with me.
another one that i don't particularly care for, but without creating the same level of disdain, is mother country by little madness. it's okay, but not a killer tune, as far as i can tell. i've tried to like it....maybe in a few years i'll "get it".
