It's heartbreaking 3 separate fatal shootings of reggae dancehall artists last week in Jamaica
A tragic waste of life
What happened to peace love an unity?
The message of songs like cornell campbells hard times (handily)have got lost along the way

To Bring your thread back on track

I can't imagine a world where Miller would have been as big or bigger than Marley on the international stage... and Lee Perry had no chance, although these days his reputation does seem to be the second biggest in Reggae.

I bet most people asked to name two reggae artists would say Bob then Perry.

That said especially in the UK a lot of people would probably also name Azwad and Black Uhuru

Although they are not my personal taste I would say Black Uhuru were probably the next most famous reggae act after Bob

In Brasil, after Marley, i guess the second biggest would be Alpha Blondy or Lucky Dube...

Yeah your probably right, I refuse to acknowledge UB40 as a reggae act though to me they are a pop act

It's possible that any group/singer with Island's promotion could have been as big. I wonder what Bob's legacy would be if Island didn't alter the Wailer's music. I think he would have been more highly regarded by reggae fans today. As admitted by some on this site (myself included), they stopped listening to him after discovering other groups/reggae genres. When I do listen nowadays, I listen to his pre-Island music. Bob and Jacob, to me, are just two great artists on a very long list of great artists in Jamaica circa the 70s.

Assuming that success in the music industry has more to do with looks and personality than musical ability then. Jacob would never have been as popular as Bob no matter how much money the record company threw at him. Bob was the whole package, that's why he was separated out as the front man, he has charisma by the bucket load, that's why people love him
