Standup Jamrock - Lyrics Help

Post by ice »

I recently came across this alternate version of "Stand up Jamrock" which is in fact a "re-working" of "Get up stand up" and now I need some help with the exact lyrics

http://www.4shared.com/mp3/G7Ow3F7M/sample_01.html

this what I've got so far - any corrections? (...) indicate sections where I need help

so you better (get up stand up, stand up for your rights)
stand up right now (in the night)
get up stand up, don't give up the fight (don't give it up, don't give it up)
get up stand up, stand up for your rights
(don't be a nigger in your neighborhood) don't give up the fight
I don't fear (...) that could be very good Lord (stand up for your right)

I said, don't be a nigger in your neighborhood (don't give up the fight)
I don't think that's very good (stand for your right)
you been sitting down a too long, too long (don't give up the fight)
too long now (get up stand, stand up for your right)

Is this the version with Peter from the Talkin Blues album they used for this remix?

I don't think so - the version from "Talkin Blues" is a "live in the studio recording" whereas these vocals were recorded during the original sessions...personally I believe they are leftovers from way back when, probably being left out because of their controversial content ("don't be a nigger...")

So you think it's an outtake from the Burnin LP recording sessions? Okay makes sense. I never heard the N-Bomb being dropped. By Peter? What album is this remix on anyway? Some Marley Best Of right? I only know this tune from the Marley Radio Station in the game GTA IV.

"outtake", "leftover", whatever you wanna call it - there are (bootleg) versions of Tosh's Equal Rights version of "Get up stand up" where he also uses the "N*" word

I believe this version of "Stand up Jamrock" comes from "Natural Mystic" or "Africa unite", not sure which

by the way: another example of "finding alternate lyrics" is the reggae-rock-rap compilation "Chant down Babylon": e.g. "Rebel Music" has "hey, do you have anything on ya", "Kinky Reggae" has "ride on, ride on, I've got to, said I've got to" etc.
