I have using things like sound forge tweaked the sound of some of my albums.
There is one dub album Earl Chinna Smith - Dub It which I find it impossible to listen too
[cover=3417,3647]
I find the overall sound of this album (don't know if that's to do with the mastering or the original mix) really harsh
Does anyone have any ideas how I might soften the sound of the album using a sequencer?
I've tried playing with the EQ, but I'm no expert and I haven't managed to soften the sound.

I'm guessing it might have been mastered that way. Ie. too much compression which just tires the ears and make stuff unlistenable. If that's the case then there's not too much you can do. :/

Pitty, I've tried all kinds of things but I just cam tame itkalcidis wrote:I'm guessing it might have been mastered that way. Ie. too much compression which just tires the ears and make stuff unlistenable. If that's the case then there's not too much you can do. :/
It's like its got too much trebble and middle, but when I take those down with eq it just sounds rubbish
Be interested to know if it sounds alright on other releases.
I thought I might try and chuck a load of reverb on it tomorrow and see if that makes it more listenable.

why waste your time with that album when there are about 2 zillion wicked dub albums out there?

Plus I just can’t believe that there can’t be something I can do with software to make it sound nicer

you might want to ask Chinna for his masters and do a remix or at the very least a remastering...

I'll give him a call tonightgbougard wrote:you might want to ask Chinna for his masters and do a remix or at the very least a remastering...
I've managed to soften it a little using a graphic eq I dropped the middle and the tremble down and turned the bass up and added some light reverb and now sounds better on my big speakers bit still sounds crap on my headphones.
Still I think I've wasted enough time on it without great results, wish I knew more about mastering etc
