Re: Lee Perry - The Sound Doctor!
Perry and his studio were involved in so many productions you can put out 20 of those, but that is of course not the issue, it is nice to hear them in good quality. And there are some real obsure songs on this one. Waiting for the other 19.

The material on this one is not very strong, mainly pre-black ark era (Randy's studio).

True, still enough Perry mixing but Late Black ark sound lovers only find a tune or three.Sammy wrote:The material on this one is not very strong, mainly pre-black ark era (Randy's studio).

I disagree. Some real killer tracks on this compilation. A solid collection, even if I (or you) would have chosen differently. I can't wait to hear that unreleased Junior Byles track!Sammy wrote:The material on this one is not very strong, mainly pre-black ark era (Randy's studio).

Re: Lee Perry - The Sound Doctor!
Yes I understand both Sammy and Mick
Sammy is imho right, the subtitel of this release suggests that it is all black ark (not for the panther release). Mick is imho right because there are some gems on this compilation that most people havnt heard and the unreleased tracks most of us never heard could be killers. So too early to judge.
O and the subtitel 'black ark singles and dubplates 1972 -1978' of this release could also be true http://www.roots-archives.com/forum/rea ... #msg-88225.

Re: Lee Perry - The Sound Doctor!
Just listened to a promo copy of The Sound Doctor, and it's a pretty solid collection. While the track listing is all over the place in regards to era (Black Ark vs. Randy's) and overall nothing stands out as really exciting, it's a well-curated compilation of rare and obscure material that serious Scratch fans should enjoy.
