I first heard the song as "Army Band" on the "Now" album in 1991. That version - much slicker and not true to the original but nice nevertheless - doesn't contain "cinnamon" at the beginning and I guess I always thought it as "some sin of man". Also, "Hot Cross Buns" sounds like something completely different in that version as well although I have no idea what. Give it a listen sometime, perhaps that will answer some of your questions. I'm no expert, but production wise, the vocals are clearer. Not better, just clearer...... if your a purist, you may not like the version.

Mikey Dread in the song 'Hot Cross Bun' says something about hot cross buns and neutron bombs.

What exactly is the symbolism of the hot cross bun in Jamaican culture anyway? I'm not sure if it's a euphemism for something or not.

Prince Far I mentions 'Easter buns' in relation to people getting shot in 'Throw Away Your Guns' too...

Hot Cross Buns is more or less a traditionall Jamaican cinnamon bun with a glazed cross on top, that is typically made during Easter time in Jamaica, which represents the Crucifixion of Christ.
