Hi guys,roms

"Alvin u mentioned that a friend of gus was called Anyia, does her name have any link with the album name Azania?"...No, Anyia was Gus's christian name i.e. Augustus Anyia, he also liked to be refered to as "Dada" as he insisted he wasn't "Rasta" but he knew of a tribe in Africa(Gus was Nigerian) that used to wear their hair in "Locks" and called themselves Dada, we also recorded a song for our unreleased album called "Dadaman", which was basically a question and answer song between gus and myself, it had the following lines:

"Dadaman can you tell me 'bout those locks you carry on your head is it to identify?
Brother man this is the answer, it's not the load I carry on my head but the thoughts that's in my mind..."

If you listen to the lyrics of Dambala's "Zimbabwe" you will hear the phrase "Crucify Vorster and take back Azania" this was used as a reference to South Africa...

this from Wikepediea:
The modern use of Azania as an alternative name for South Africa only began to become popular in 1979, appearing in the names of groups such as the Azanian People's Organisation. At the time of the 1994 multi-racial elections, some proposed "Azania" as an alternative official name for the country, but this never received widespread support. In fact the African National Congress had always been extremely dismissive of the name, associating it with colonialism and the Pan Africanist Congress which had split from the ANC.

While South Africa had diplomatic relations with the Republic of China on Taiwan, the People's Republic of China officially referred to South Africa as "Azania".

Take it easy...
peace and love

Alvin

greetings lions

there is one thing i don't understand on this album, it's the track N°4 on the side 2 "I chuckwumeka" what's that ??? what dada means when he says "I chuckwumeka"

i ve got another question
How many tracks there are credited to Dambala, i only know the lp azania and zimbabwe but on zimbabwe it seems that jimmy lindsay is the lead vocal and not dada.

on the back cover it mentioned that there is another dada on percussions and congos
