MIGHTY DIAMONDS - "PLANET EARTH + PLANET MARS DUB" HOT MILK RECORDS

Post by MellowMan »

Hey guys, just so you know, some shameless self promotion...

On 29 April, we will be releasing The Mighty Diamonds "Planet Earth" and "Planet Mars Dub".

Rather than put one album followed by the other on this disc, we have sequenced it so each vocal tune from "Planet Earth" is directly followed by its' dub version from "Planet Mars Dub". This will give listeners the chance to hear the vocals and dubs back to back to create a kind of 12" discomix vibe.

I hope you'll enjoy it as much as we have been.

74 minutes of sweet harmonies from the Mighty Diamonds on one CD.

On the vocal, are you using the Virgin tapes or the one released in Jamaica? Slightly different mix.

We're using the Virgin tapes, transferred from the originals at Abbey Road Studios.

Did not know that the JA issue sounds different. Will have to check it out.

Also I personally think it's a good idea to have it in showcase style. Always loved the format and many albums I wish had been two showcases instead of separate vocals and dubs on two different LP.

I thought it was a good idea to make it showcase style, as I think you really hear the nuances of a song or production when you hear a dub after a vocal version. Much better than having an album followed by another album.

I find that there are many albums that have dub counterparts but most don't include dubs of all the tracks on the vocal album. This was one of the few to the exception.

Anyone have any examples of dub albums that contain dubs of all the songs on vocal albums???

Excellent news! Agreed about the showcase style. One example is the Earth & Stone Kool Roots PS reissue- as amazing as the vocal tracks are, imo I don't think those dubs are strong enough to warrant listening to all of them through by themselves, but work much better played following the vocals.
