i thought you meant nuclear bomb for a minute! - as i see it blacks often use the N word amongst themselves - where its is quite acceptable - however if a white person uses it in relation to a black person - whole different story and will usually be seen as demeaning /derogatory /racist /unacceptable etc - it's all about who says it - to whom and in what context.......

I'm aware that in Jamaica, 'pickney' (or 'pickaninny') isn't considered a racial slur, and you hear that quite often in reggae. That raises eyebrows sometimes in other countries, I think...
(because over here, calling a black kid a 'pickney' would be about as nasty as calling him a 'niglet')
I thought pickney was just a term for a child, is it specifically a black child in a derogatory sense then?
I have always loved that Welton Irie tune and find it completely hilarious. The complete lyric is:
*You shouldn't leave your yard and nah eat breakfast
Me say you get get dizzy and faint in the park
Then dirty nigger come and dem a pass dem remark*
Which I have never interpreted as "crass", "distasteful" or even "out of place". Nigger is an ugly word, but it's a fact that black people use it amongst themselves as an insult. End of story.
Many white people are very scared of the word *nigger* and give it weird aliases like "n-word" or "n-bomb", which I have always found strange. As long as you're not calling anyone a nigger, I see no need to be afraid of the word.

I don't particularly feel comfortable using that word, is all. I do realize that not every usage of the word is an racist incident, but I don't use it in real life, so I don't use it online.
I do swear in real life - a lot. But I suppose that there have been certain words that I was brought up to know are more hurtful and offensive than others.
