Does anyone know if something like this exists. I feel like it must but I've never heard of or seen any. There's so much knowledge on this topic that is unknown to most of the world in the way music was written in Jamaica from the 60's - 80's that should be out there.
Just curious, thanks!

You have a documentary on the Soul Syndicate called Word, Sound & Power. Never seen it but supposedly very good. I need to get the DVD.

yes, the Word, Sound & Power documentary is great - it's a snapshot of them as of around 1980, they are interviewed and followed around and shown playing - doesn't really cover their earlier history much (their heyday was the early 70's)but is great nonetheless.
it used to run on US television on Night Flight in the early 80's, that's initially where i saw it and then i found the DVD last year.... either eBay or Ernie B, can't remember where i got it.

Word, Sound + Power is the best one on a backing back Soul Syndicate as mentioned but there are many other documentaries which feature backing bands and musicians, there was a documentary in the early 80's called Rockschool on Reggae in the UK with Dennis Bovell(of Matumbi) which showed you how to play drums and bass and stuff like that.
Documentary like "Ruff & Tuff: Founders of the Immortal Riddim" Japanese documentary filemdin JA which is about rocksteady and Gladdy Anderson features heavily+Skully along with other greats which gives great insight into the early session musicians, very good film only available in Japan, you can buy from HMV japanese website, expensive tho.
Lots of films done in the last 5-10yrs which go into the studios and show the early session musicians in action today but very little filmed about session musicians in the early days, you have film from 1980's on Third World band which was probably the first one done to look at a reggae band in real detail after Word Sound Power, another one which touches on Roots Rock band with Richie Macdonald, another made around 81 and one with Blood+Fire Posse in UK but 'Word, Sound Power' is the one to check, it's on amazon, ebay etc.... wicked film with Earl Zero at his best.
There are also a few short films which look at Alpha boys school as most of the early session musicians came outta alpha.
