also see "burial of long shot" by king horror (i think) and as mentioned there are other pioneers tunes with the race horse theme, jackpot, poor rameses, maybe a couple more...

"Burial Of Long Shot" was by The Prince Of Darkness, an alias for Dandy Livingstone.... only ever seen it as a UK release (Down Town, a Trojan sublabel), which would make sense since he was living in the UK at that point.

obviously, we've already covered "Rameses" and "Buss' Mi Bet".

"Jackpot" was done for Joe Gibbs in '68, so we can see that like many Jamaicans, Sidney Crooks was a definitely a bit of a horse racing fan!

So, the Horns we can hear at the start of both rameses and longshot and jackpot songs would be the actual horns they threw at the start of a race or?
All those tracks are classics to me but i would never realised it was race theme lol. what a joy what a joy what a joy tonight... sweet music rice and chicken for me... all so lovely.
Does Caymanas Park is still up and running?
One day i'll stand there :) and catch the jackpot !

i doubt the horns you hear on record are the same... but certainly the riff is typical of what you would hear at any race track just about anywhere in the world...

Balughetto, my man.... if you want to catch a race at Caymanas you might want to hurry it up, bredrin! it's been in financial trouble off and on since the late 80's - and lately, that financial trouble is ON again.

Caymanas is the only horse track i am aware of in Jamaica - it replaced the old Knutsford track that gave up it's land to become New Kingston in the late 50's/early 60's.

there you go, boss.... don't say i didn't warn you!

Thanks to Lester for those lyrices to "Long Shot", but can anyone help with the words to "Poor Rameses"?

I've been listening to this song for nigh on 45 years now, and all I've got so far is something about a heart attack & giving the owner a shock.

Cheers!

He he he he I don't think I can get those missing bits. For some reason I always manage to catch lyrics that I can't otherwise make out when I listen to them in the car
