Hi all
Just thought I'd let you know that the great reggae producer and from what I have experienced throughly nice chap has re-released a couple of his productions:
Two Jah woosh albums
[Cover=4647] and [Cover=1918] as [Cover=1544]
And a couple of compilations
Rupie Edwards Presents Success Archives - From Kingston Jamaica to London UK and the same title Vol 3
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rupie-Edwards-P ... ie+edwards
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rupie-Edwards-P ... ie+edwards
They are all available on itunes, emusic amazon etc
Can anyone update the folks on the blood and fire board as I don't have a log on for that board?

Can't say I like this download only form of release. It's becoming common it seems.

I wouldn't expect any thing else from this forum. Personally I'd rather have mp3 than not at all. CDs take up space and you can't change the track order. Vinyl takes up even more space and is so easily damaged even if your careful. MP3 can be backed up and never looses quality or gets damaged.
I'm more intrested in hearing the sounds than their format.
Also it must be cheaper and lower risk to the producer than having boxes and boxes of unsold cds or lps
For that matter its also better for the environment as there is no distribution
Each to his own of course but I'd rather have the mp3s than nothing at all

I like mp3 download cards that come with vinyl purchases - and I do like to listen to mp3s on my computer. But more than anything else, I like the discs in my collection - with the artwork, lyric sheets, etc.
I'm aware that you may be able to print the lyrics off from the internet - but that's an utter garbage way of doing it, as far as I'm concerned.
I don't recall ever buying anything that was purely a digital release.
Edit: I did have 'The Best Of Jah Woosh' on CD. I don't remember it being very good, to be honest. I sold it a long time ago.

personally i don't have any mp3's as i much prefer actually having the music physically rather than having it as a file.
I'd rather go without a certain song or album than have a download.
but everyman is a little way different....

BTW i think most of those songs on the compilations above have been issued on CD previously as the "Success Archives" series & also on a Trybute label collection.

Off topic, at home I listen to (quality) vinyl on a high end audio system (Luxman)
In the tram, car, train and bike I listen to MP3's.
In my eyes you consume the formats differently.
And yes there is a difference in sound quality and certainly in feel en experience.
On topic, Jah Woosh with Jah Woosh was rereleased on vinly a few years ago. And is the only crucial set in my eyes. But you have to dig jah woosh. It was probably the six or seven reggae LP I listen to as a teenager so for me it is nostalgic and therefore crucial.

Re: Rupie Edwards re-releases Jah Woosh and a couple of various artists
I also think of it as a financial thing, the cost of buying and shipping one LP to me tends to be around £14 for a basic non rare LP.
For £14 on Emusic I can download 3 albums worth of music, 'd rather have three albums worth of music than one, but I sense a lot of the people on this website might be a lot older and richer then me and thus can afford vinyl
Also before Rupie re released this there was no whole album of Jah Woosh available on MP3 to purchase, so regardless of the format, the artist's memory is being kept alive.
and Once again, it must be a much lower cost to the producer to release as MP3 and therefore lower risk, so I'd rather everything was released as mp3 and the producer's made more money and therefore felt more inclined to re-release more, so more of the music was available.
I really resent paying £50 for a scratched LP from a collector since the collector is the only person who benefits financially and it keeps the music rare and artificially high in price.
MP3 takes the power away from the collectors, dealers and puts it back into the hands of the producers, artists and purchasers and the poor folk listening.

Re: Rupie Edwards re-releases Jah Woosh and a couple of various artists
I think there is a diference between a digital download and an MP3. Most download sites only offer mp3's at a pretty low bit rate so the quality is not too great. However, if a site offers a download in WAV or FLAC or even 320 mp3 then I am happy to download it.....I just can't stand low bit rate mp3, the sound is terrible. In my collection I have vinyl, cd and mp3........I think there is some "snobbery" around vinyl, but that has always been the case.....If I can have a high quality digital file of an album that would otherwise be impossible to find then I'll take it......And, to be honest, I don't care about lyric sheets or booklets, or any of that stuff, it's just the music I'm interested in.

I never pay silly prices for 2nd hand records/CD.
I have no problems with downloading OOP records/CDs, if the only place they're available is from the guy on eBay/Amazon Marketplace/Discogs/etc. who's selling it used for £50+.
