Transitions between records

Post by Tubbs »

Hey guys,

I had the opportunity to select on a friend's radio station recently, meaning that for the first time i was making transitions from a song to another. It was great fun and what I want to know is if I buy a mixing deck, will it allow me to do the same if I only have one turntable ?
I don't know anything about DJ-ing stuff, but basically it would just be for adding echo whilst I flip the disc for the fun of when I'm playing records at home.

Thanks for your advice !

Turntable - Mixer - Turntable

Mixing with just one table is not totally impossible I guess, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks Gabranth, I dont plan on investing in a new turntable so even if with one it would be difficult, if the echo is going to keep going whilst I turn/change the record that's just fine.

Do you already have a mixing desk that can produce a nice echo?

If not, then it'll be much much cheaper to buy a second table and a small mixer.

No all I have is my turntable for 'normal' listening. How could buying both these things be cheaper ? I have seen several second-hand offers on the internet for mixers/mixing desks (same meaning ? :/) for around 100 euros, does that sound ok to you ?

You are mixing up two digfferent things:

if you want to mix two (or more) songs you need a mixer, if you want echo on the songs you are playing you need a delay effect (either analog, or digital) and a pre amp/mixer with a line in/oyut to use it.

you can buy mixers with built in fx, like the pioneer mk500, but these are usually quite expensive
