any lead belly fans on here?

Post by unorthodoxconqueror »

hey, i think my original post got deleted along with the spambots' posts. so i am posting again...

i've started a new project putting leadbelly's acapella songs recorded by alan lomax to new dub instrumentals. i'll post a few of the finish tracks below. any feedback or criticism would be great!

https://soundcloud.com/dreadbelly/i-don ... hat-have-i

"i don't know you, what have i done" - this one has a more hip hop feel, but there are dub elements in there too.

https://soundcloud.com/dreadbelly/jolly-of-the-ransom

"jolly of the ransom" - a more reggae/dubbish one this time.

https://soundcloud.com/dreadbelly/new-iberia

"new iberia" - my latest one, and the most dub-ish. based loosely on capo riddim.

hope you like!

Yes.. a fan here, would love to hear a mash up of Black Girl (in the pines in the pines where the sun never shines) interestingly my dad worked with Ralph Rinzler for Alan Lomax who along with his Dad recorded Leadbelly (as you'll know) for the first time..

wow, that's really interesting! i can listen to his Last Sessions all day. to me this is roots music in its purest form. Lead Belly was a walking encyclopedia of songs and it is fascinating to hear him talking about and singing all those songs. what did you think of the mixes? i am working on many more as we speak but i will try to find a suitable version of black girl form sampling. if you know of any acapella version i would love to know where i can get it. peace
