Scratch top 5 studio albums
How does one go about selecting the top 5 dub albums from the Upsetter? And in what order? What if we could only choose one!

Re: Scratch top 5 studio albums
Are you talking studio albums or dub albums? Other than a couple of live albums, all of Lee Perry's albums are studio albums
.
When it comes to Lee Perry dub collections, keep in mind that after *Revolution Dub* in 1975, Scratch didn't really release any dub albums when dub was at it's peak (1975 - 1979). Most of the collections have been curated years later. *Megaton Dub* 1 & 2 are very good (Seven Leaves), so is Heartbeat's *Upsetter In Dub* and *Dub Triptych* on Trojan.

Yep - studio releases accredited to Lee Perry / Upsetters rather than LSP productions.

Re: Scratch top 5 studio albums
At this very moment in time my 5 would be: Revolution Dub, Return Of The Super Ape, 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle, Kung Fu meets the Dragon and Megaton Dub vol 2. The Sound system scratch albums look interesting but I've never heard them, so does Heartbeat's Upsetter in Dub. Don't think I've ever given Roast Fish Collie Weed a fair chance not being a fan of Soul Fire - maybe I'll re-visit.

He did two martial arts - themed albums, didn't he? I like the one that had Pablo squawking over the top of it, whichever one what was. I forget now...

Re: Scratch top 5 studio albums
Return Of Super Ape takes some beating for me - Rough and ready production and the darkest, heaviest dub. For me Super Ape has always felt too controlled and a touch tame by comparison although still excellent.
