Alton Ellis & U-Roy - I Can't Stand It (High Note)

Post by Ron »

I did some research on the net on this release and it seems they are several High Note releases with just Alton Ellis. I'm specifically looking for the one with U-Roy in the mix to add to my discography.
Anyone know anything about this?
On the Heartbeat CD-release from 1993 (Cry Tough), U-Roy was not in the credits.
Is that the same on the vinyl issue?

Any info is welcome! ;)

I have this 12" and it only credits Alton although U Roy comes in with a fine toast. I would imagine they are all like that.

More info on the 12" - other side is Can't Stop Now which has a version but no DJ.

Both sides credited to Alton Ellis and the Revolutionairs.

Let me know if you want to do a trade for this one.

real nice disc, haven't pulled it out in quite some time. don't we think that's ranking trevor though, and not u roy? it's been a while since i listened, but going from memory i'm pretty sure it's trevor.

It's Ranking Trevor toasting, not U-Roy. These are late 70's remixes with drum and bass overdubbed on the original tracks. The other two Ellis / Trevor 12"s from the same period are "You Make Me So Very Happy" and "Baby I Love You".

Take this one thing from me: this is definitely U-Roy toasting on 'I Can't Stand It'. :)

Just had a quick listen to the other Ranking Trevor cut to 'You Make Me So Very Happy' and although he has a simular style of toasting copying U-Roy on occasions, the two DJ's are very different.
