Re: uk reggae and uk bubblers
"rise again the resurrection, but a him create the earth and heaven" its a truly great song/piece of reggae fast style rap that's never been rivalled, let alone beaten. And what of FARE DODGER by papa benjie?tremendous track on issues such as travelling the london underground without paying..great reggae.its grand when the reggae we hear actually relates to OUR own lives here in UK ,as JA reggae doesn't do that.Man such as Macka B with hits like FOOD CRISIS need much more respect, far more coverage. Or LKJ WITH HIS inglan is a bitch...a fine track.

Hi,
Those were the days.
Who remembers Fanso Sound System, FatMan Hi Fi, Sufferer Sounds, Lloydie Coxsone, Jah Sufferer Moa Ambessa, Quaker City, Stereograph, Jah Shaka.(Are any of these still going ?).
Clubs like the Four Aces, Flamingo Club, Lotus Club, Gossips, Phebes and the many pubs/community centres where these guys played.
The secrecy of the Blues Dances, taking over unoccupied houses and setting up Sound Systems gauranteed to blow the neighbours out their beds.
Yes, those were the days the likes of which I don`t think I will ever see again.
Respect
Dave

hi Dave
yes i recall watching papa levi live on stage at Leeds Chapeltown carnival in 1986. Tremendous it was too...he did 84 tion, mi god mi king, big and broad, and others. i saw the great macka b live and outdoors also in 1986.These days its just not as good. The Leeds carnival has gone downhill so badly that its hardly worth a mention nowadays.

Re: uk reggae and uk bubblers
hi,
anyone of you remember 'Great British M.C.s' the first album released through Fashion label ?
They're all on it...Smiley Culture, Philip Levi, Asher Senator (though not with my fave 'Cockney Translation), Peter King, Papa Benjie's 'Fare Dodger', Macka B, the infernal 'To the Bump' by Papa Face and Bionic Rhona (hi Roddy!), Laurel and Hardy etc....
If I remember it right then 'Mi God Mi King' was the first nonjamaican record to storm Jamaica's charts to #1 position...

Hi Bellyman,
I remember those acts and that album and yes your correct "Mi God Mi King" was the first non jamaican record to go to #1 in the jamaican charts.
I can also remember Smiley Culture "Police Officer " getting into the national pop charts I think about 1985.
Certainly Saxon Sound was carrying the swing as they used to say. Wasn`t Tippa Irie on Saxon aswell ?
Funny, i`m not a big lover of toasting but I can remember these acts fairly well. Goes to show how the impact of these sound systems stay with you.
Respect

Re: uk reggae and uk bubblers
your right, tippa irie chatted for saxon. still recording some pretty good material, he still got the lyrics I think.
Iv got a request. a couple of years or so ago I found a video shaka, fatman and coxone playing their sounds revival style and I got so amazed by fatmans selections with stuff like nineys "I soon know", sylford walkers "deuteronomy", gladstone mannings "prophecy call", also coxone plays a wicked version of lloyd Parks "officially".
however, I also love the reissues on the fatman label so Iv been kind of obsessed with finding tapes with fatman hi-fi from the early years but I sadly havent found anything, not even the remaining parts of the fatman vid since i only have part one.
so, if you have anything you think I would like (the rest of the vid for example) and want to share, you would make my day.

"Me God Me King" is a really wicked tune.
The "Great British M.C.s" comp is also very good.
I have a 12" from Tippa Irie called "Sleng Teng Finsh Already" on UK Bubbler which is killer. Tempo riddim. Does anyone have this one? I need a few infos about this one which is on heavy rotation since I found it.
