4th Street Orchestra

Post by Rootsman »

I have just seen, what I believe to be, this bands first 4 albums re-issued by EMI and for sale on 2 double CD`s.

The 1st CD contains the albums called "A who she go deh" and "Leggo ah fi we dis".

The 2nd CD contains the albums called "Higher Ranking Dub" and Yuh Learn"

Firstly, am I correct in saying that these are their first 4 releases ?

Secondly, I have seen this band well regarded on other threads recently, so I was wondering if they would be a worthwhile purchase.

Anyone please advise.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks, I guessed that from previous threads.

But what are these albums about, are they the dubs side of Matumbi`s output.

I don`t know anything about them (excuse my ignorance), so can I have a bit more feedback on the actual music on the albums.

Hi Dave,
4th Street Orchestra is one of the many names that Dennis Bovell used for his projects (others were Matumbi, and later Dub Band).
The four records on these discs were created in the mid-70s to create a kind of dancehall feeling especially for the english audience...kinda blues dance specials if you like. So you have vocals followed by instrumentals and dubs respectively.
This is different to Matumbi but highly enjoyable and up until this cd-release these were extremely hard to find.
