The 3 best 21st century roots reggae albums

Post by vlad »

Imagine, you have to keep only 3, produced since 2000.

Which one would these be?

My pick:

1. Me De Yah, Clinton Fearon (2010)
2. Morgan Heritage, You Don't Haffi Dread (1999, so listened to actively in 2000; A few misses, but at least 10 total classics delivered with passion unmatched since by the band)
3. Monty Alexander, Goin' Yard (2001)

That would be my choice. Would have placed Ernest Ranglin's Below The Bassline instead of Monty's, but 1996 is a stretch vs. the theme.

Mi de Yah is a fine album
I'd also include Horace Andy Mek it bun, Bitty McLean Taxi Sessions, (both of which I produced), Milton Henry's Branches and leaves, Captain Sinbad...

I would be happy to choose just one

Earl Zero "And God Said To Man Showcase"

Although this released in 2010 it stand comparison with the classic roots releases of the 70`s.

It is the nearest I have heard in sound on a 21st century recording to those recorded in the heyday of roots reggae.

Superb stuff

BMG is still selling it although the license I gave them in 2001 has expired and although I keep sending them cease and desist letters... So yes you could probably find this album, and if you cant find it, email me I'll send you the files. After all it is MY album...

@gbougard

Really great work on Bitty's Taxi Sessions album. Any idea when the MP3s will be available on amazon, iTunes, etc.?
Thanks!
