Well Pack Band - Workers Speak to Their Slave Master

Post by DubManic »

Hello All

I am fascinated by this album from Well Pack Band. http://www.roots-archives.com/release/1400

I cant find that much info on it and have only ever heard 3 tracks from it. I liked those tracks.

Would love to be able to buy it or hear more. Unfortunately it looks to be one of those many rare albums I would love to own but am never going to be able to afford on the beloved vinyl judging by auction prices I have seen.

Interested in any more info on it and your views of this one if you have heard it?

Much appreciated.

It's a brilliant Winston Edwards produced set. A rather mellow and jazzy vibe to it all the way through. It's an instrumental set rather than a dub album. The Well Pack Band was featured as a backing band on many Studio 16 lovers rock releases. I know there was a reissue some times in the late 80's or early 90's but it seems to be as rare as the original. Which is a shame.

Thanks kalcidis, that describes the tracks I've heard very well. I was wondering if the 3 tracks I heard were the stand outs, but sounds like solid tracks all the way through from what you have said, now I want it even more now!

I have been looking for several years and you are right, v rare.

Check out the same combination on Dub Conference (Winston Edwards & Blackbeard @ 10 Downing St); it can be found on one of those "Evolution of Dub" box sets that V.P. released....epic!

Reading this yesterday I put the record on my turntable again after a long while.
The first side is a laid back jazzy instrumental Reggae with little or no dubbing at all. More Dub is evident on the 2nd side ("Union And Management" and "More Opportunity For Worker's Children").
Whole record is very good from start to finish, but I prefer the 2nd side even more. Nice horns!

Seems its all positive for this album, thanks for the feedback.

I have the Evolution of Dub LP with Well Pack Band . Love it, but a very different vibe to the tracks i have heard from this album. Interesting the 2nd side is more dubby.

This can go on my ever growing wanted list of unaffordable albums alongside Tad's logic dub band chapter 1, Aquarius Vol 4, Martin Williams Afrikan History, Revolutionaries Dawn of creation, conflict dub etc etc etc!

The Tads Logic one seems quite easy to find:
