Yeah, never thought of it as a UK production. Was more thinking that it was a staple on UK sounds such as Coxsone Outernational, Jungleman HiFi and Sterograph.

Who was the vocalist?

Here's the very short story:
In 1972, when the Hookim brothers opened the Channel One Studio ,they initiated a promotion(' Try it before paying!') to compete Randy's,Federal or Dynamic.
Bunny Lee was the first to test it (with Delroy Wilson's "Can I Change My mind").Phil Pratt was also one of the first producers to get a free session (Gregory isaacs "All I Have Is Love").
Despite the fact that the recording equipments were new, the sound quality was bad (Sid Bucknor was the first sound engineer).A whole Alton Ellis album was set aside except 2 songs("Tell Me" & "I Dig You Baby") in dubplate format for UK.

Thanks swaby974..... the combination of Alton's sweet vocal over that heavy Channel One riddim is a killa! Prime material for a digikiller reissue..........I wonder how many more of these tunes are hiding on old master tapes?

One of the absolute best dubplates I've heard in my life. In my opinion up there with other dubplate classics such Kunta Kinte (PS 7"), Conquering Lion (DKR 7") and Rocks & Mountains (DKR 10").

Come in DKR and make this one happen as well. Rootsiest UK sound vibe ever.

I'm trying to remember where I heard this tune. Could it be one of the extras with Jungleman from the Musically Mad docu?

I'm wondering about something. Back in the day, say the pre-digi era, was it nearly as common for different sounds to have dubplate cuts of the same tunes as it is today? I think no, as I can't think of any examples, but I don't feel entirely confident. Can you think of tunes that different old time sounds had dubplate cuts of? My impression is that dubplates used to be more "special" than they are today.

"Vibrate On" is definitely a more modern UK remix (the sirens give it away). Also, who makes a dub plate that's only 2 minutes long?
