Rico---Man From Wareika (DUB)

Post by darewon »

Has anyone bought the re-issue or (gasp!) have the original Dub version of this album?

If so, how would you rate it?

It was re-issued in Japan as "Wereka Dub" (mispelling) a couple years ago.

I have the reissue. Buy it. Don't even hesitate. If you think "Man from Wareika" is a classic, then the dub album is a crucial piece for the collection.

Not as crucial as many people seem to give it credit for.

the mixing is kind of boring, but the rhythms are ok, I guess. Think "Man from Wareika" without horns and rhythm guitar, that's about it. No echos etc.
it was originally released as a kind of a gimmick, as a promo LP for UK music journalists.

darewon, when you say 'original' - do you mean a repress witht he original mix, or the true original white label version that sells for the price of a car on ebay right now???

What upsets me most is that I had the original many years ago and sold it on a street corner in St Pauls, Bristol for probably about 50p one day in the mid 80s. Aaaaaaaaargh!

Leggo,

Just the original LP issue (in this case the white label) and not a re-issue. Now with that one you could retire...for a week or two!

So, darewon, to be absolutely clear on this:

you have the white label press, of the DUB version, (as opposed to the popular instrumental version)?
