best covers

Post by pf »

Which are in your opinion the best covers of non-reggae songs ever made? I can now think of these:

Alton Ellis-Diana
Jackie Mittoo-Love is blue
Chaka Demus-Don´t be cruel
...

Its later than you think

Maybe the Heptones Black Ark-version of Bob Dylans »I Shall Be Released«.

The Jays »Queen of the Minstrel« is also crucial listening.

When it comes to »Is it because I'm Black« my personal favorite version of the tune is by Lloyd Williams. A very talented, soulful and not to mention obscure singer.

The first I think about is Baltimor by the Tamlins.
A killer tune.

There are plenty others

My choice is John Holt's cover of "Just The Two Of Us". Wonderful voice & nice backing & bassline
