Creation Rebel

Post by Rootsman »

Hi,

I have seen several of the aboves albums released on a label called Beat. ie "Starship Africa", "Dub from Creation", Psychotic Jonkanoo"

Can anyone tell me if this is a legitmate label as I thought all the re-releases of Creation Rebel`s albums were issued under the On-u-Sound label.

Is Beat anything to do with On-u-Sound or should I steer clear of these releases as I don`t wish to purchase any rip off`s.

Thanks for the help.

Respect

Hi Lion,

I did that before I posted the thread.

Perhaps i`m being thick but I could not see anthing on the On-u-sound site that related to any off shoot label called Beat. Is it there and i`ve just missed it.

Can anyone just answer, are these re-issues that I have seen on the Beat label legit and of the same quality as those that are released on the on-u-sound label.

Please excuse my ignorance, I would just like to know.

Thanks

Yes, these are sanctioned by On-U and Sherwood as official reissues.

The re-issues by the Japanese beat label have extra tracks in some cases.

Try finding the "Historic Moments" series Vol 1 and 2 both released in the U.S. by Restless Records, if I remember right.

Vol 1. features "Dub Creation" and "Rebel Vibrations" (not in their interity)

Vol 2. is "Starship Africa" with bonus cuts from Threat to Creation (New Age Stepper's dubs) and a very hard to find Prince Far I track entitled "I and I Father's House."

I found both Historic Moments CD's for a 1.00 stateside. There seems to be an abundance of these two CDs in the U.S. Shoot, I sold about roughly 20 copies of both on eBay!

They have a later release entitled "Lows and Highs" featuring "Independent Man"

There's been a lot of varying opinion on Creation Rebel's output which reflect peoples disregard or championing of Adrian Sherwood. It's a distinct UK sound and IMHO the best late 70s early 80s UK output has to offer up until On-U went digital (around 84). However, the purists would argue otherwise.

Creation Rebel is basically Prince Far I's band (the Arabs) and later went on to form Roots Radics.
