Hail Mi Lion
Dosen't anyone Miss the old skool dj style and fashion (60's - the 80's)
The first generation : - 1950's - 1960's (Ska/Rocksteady
Count Machuki (The First DJ to Talk On A Mic In Jamacia In The 50's - Quite Rare To Hear)
King Stitt : Took Over From The Late Great Count Machuki (R.I.P) And Took Storm across JA in the 60's
Sir Lord Comic : Also A witty and tasteful DJ who along-side Count Machuki Pioneered The DJ Style In The 50's/Early 60's
Daddy U-Roy : One Of The Most Recognised Pioneers Of The DJ Style and Blessed With an exteamly unique style; his signiture ''wooooooo's'' and ''as i would tell you's''.Often Credited as the Originator Although That title techniqcally belongs to Count Machuki, but U-Roy was the first DJ or 'Toaster' (As It Was Then Called) To Cause A storm all over Jamacia
Second Generation : - 1970's (Roots & Culture)
Big Youth : - Very Roots Oriatated, and cultural/witty DJ Big Youth Was In Th Mid 70's Jamacia's Biggest Star , and had a great DJ style That Resembled U-Roy's but interpreted an element of jokes and social issues.
Dennis Alcapone/Dilliger : - Two DJ's Who Took Up After Big Youth & Literally ruled JA's DJ music scene In 70's - Attack Socal/Cultural Issues while Praising Jah and embracing Rastafari.
Third Generation : - 1980's (Rub-A-Dub/Dancehall)
General Echo/Yellow Man : These two DJ's Both played a major role in the transformation of Roots Reggae into the early drum & bass dancehall sound which predominantly revolved around 'slackness' and Lude lyrics mostly about girls.
Papa Toyan/Lee Van Cliff : Two Of My Favourate Rub-A-Dub DJ's who preached Rastafarinism and social awarness but in a 80's DJ style and Fashion (Toyan/Lee Van R.I.P In Zion)
Josey Wales/Charlie Chaplin : Just Like 'Toyan/Lee Van',Josey Wales & Charlie Chaplin are also two of my favorate DJ's From the 80's (Alongside Early B)They Were Trained By U-Roy and adapted his social awarness and his lyrical skill.
I Miss all the DJ Nosies/Sounds and traites of the 60's,70's and 80's
In The 60's Things Like : - ''As I would tell you''
''Uh Huh'' / ''This Sound Rules The Nation''
''Graet Sounds Call The.......''
In The 70's Things Like : -
''Baby I Love You And No Other, you may change but ill never''
Screaming And Wooing ''Wahhh' 'Woooo'
In The 80's Things Like : -
Animal Noises became in fashion things like the classic : -
'Ribbit' = A Frog
'Oink' = A Pig
'Right' = General Noise
'Bim/Bimmer' = General Nosie made famous by The Lone Ranger

It should be noted that Lone Ranger originated much of the early 80s style (if not most)..Yellowman bit his style almost completely.
Brigadier Jerry was a very influential deejay as well (pity he was under-recorded).

I agree, U-Roy, Dillinger, etc all great stuff. I haven't heard much earlier DJ stuff, I must get a listen!
BUT!!!! Please don't forget Ranking Trevor, his stuff is quite rare but he pops up on a lot of Disco 45s doing the talkover/toasting section.
His LP 'In Fine Style'
http://www.roots-archives.com/release/2524
was, and still is, by far my favourite DJ LP, I played it to death in the late 70s and have aquired an original copy lately and can't get enough of that sing-song DJ style.
Sometimes I listen to 80s DJ, but for me RT was the peak of the art.

You just through me back with this one! I was just listening to Toyan's "Spar with me" and U-Roy and Josie Wales "The teacher meets the student" today and here you ask this question. Like I said in other forums in this site. Toyan is and will always be my favorite DJ. The 80's was the best.
So thanks for the memories
