I think Icho Candy is a brilliant interpretator of the Horace style. Horace did actually have some of the most interesting copy cats. These four artists are all nothing less than seminal: Icho Candy, Wayne Jarrett, Madoo, Badoo/Horace Grossett (only in JA can a copy of a copy be as incredible as Badoo is).

By the way. Anyone that has contact info for Badoo/H. Grossett? I really need to get in contact with him.

Also not that impressive. Even if I hadn't known both Scotty and Bobby Culture mention their names in the clip. Bobby Culture of course is one of my absolute favourite deejays (with Brigadier Jerry I would say they were the nicest deejays to hear on sound tape). Both were criminally under recorded.

There's an album with loads of songs by Icho Candy (and Briggy) that I think is something of the perfect rub-a-dub set. It gathers some of Icho's biggest songs from this era -- such as the seminal Captain Selassie I. It was released on Jwyanza and seems to be quite rare but pops up every now and then for a reasonable price (with the exception of one or two auctions where the price spiked for some reason).

Bobby Culture has a couple of very nice 12" (Health & Strength/Buenos Dias is perhaps the most known) but also other strong releases. He is also featured on a V/A album with Nicodemus, Louie Rankin and Brimstone called Tidal Wave which I really rate. Especially the cuts by Louie Rankin on it.

I can't say that I know of any releases from Scotty Ranking but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a 7" or so out there. Not the most interesting deejay in my opinion.

Mickey Simpson has a couple of very nice songs out there such as Low them & Gwaan and also a 7" produced by Ruby that was recently reissued. There is supposedly a full LP out there somewhere that never was released but a sampler has been passed around from someone that managed to get a cassette (?) recording of it. Very interesting stuff. A shame it never got released.

and for the "not" original interpretation of horace andy's song, were talking about soundsystems, riddims, deejayin and stuff

i think almost nothing would be "original" in that case, how many versions of "real rock" riddim there are? "solomon", "murderer" etc
thinking this way we would descredit many works along the years of the jamaican music, and its not right

absolutely under recorded, were trying to get briggy here for a dancehall, we had lone ranger last weekend. but briggy would sound just perfect for the lack of recordings he have, his material is almost pure live performances. thats the only way you will fully appreciate his work, were hoping he comes
