Sam Cooke 7''

Post by Joao »

Greetings people,

Last week i bought on a reggae store here in Portugal a 7'' from Sam Cooke, an artist i didn't know .. i heard the two tunes in the store and i loved them, good reggae roots.

But when i came hoe i told to a friend of me .. and he didn't knew this artist so we search in the internet and we found that Sam Cooke was a Soul Musicien and he born in America, and he never went to Jamaica so he can't record to Studio 1.
My friend found the 2 tunes with the same name i had in the 7'' cover but soul version the same name, same artist but the tune is diferent.

It's possible that the over have the wrong names?
Or Sam Cooke was unknow reggae artist who recorded this to tunes with the same name of that soul Artist?

Anyone can help?

i will try to put in a host some part of the tunes for you guys can help me

Bless Joao

I believe these are remixes (or mash-ups) engineered long after Sam's death (weren't they done a couple years ago?)

This one will educate, inform and inspire - sounds fromt he Ethiopian empire.

Another possibility is to mind that Coxsonne went to America for some time ...

Yes, Joao, Soufriere is right, these are actually old songs from Sam that they put over an old Studio One riddim.1 or 2 years ago they put out a Vol. 1 with two other songs.
This kind of mixing is called 'Mash up' indeed.

Theres a pretty neat Elvis Presley 7" out there too, also a studio one mix. A-side is "Crying In The Chapel", that one is ok but the b-side is better, it is a dub mix of "In The Ghetto" over a pretty heavy riddim. The Wailers are the backing band on the front and Sound Dimension on the back, worth checking out, if you dont have it already. :)
