hello nacho
on the one hand you put all modern reggae artists in one saucepan and talk about the lack of "PERFECT LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING OR ONE LOVE ONE HEART" amongst new roots reggae
and on the other hand you yourself are intolerant towards music you don´t like
tolerance does not mean mean to like or love everything
it just means to accept different ways of living
you don´t have to listen to them, just let ´em do their thing

intolerance is based on fear, fear is based on doubt

peace

I agree with Rasteo. Midnite is the only proof that roots music still exists.

Hi,

I too hear reggae from the 50s/60s/70s/80s from mento, Ska, Rocksteady to the classic roots reggae of the 70`s and the Dancehall of the early 80`s.

Nowhere in these early days of reggae do I hear such hostility in the music with the condemnation of gays & lesbians and fire pon dem etc etc as is with the current waive in bobo dread doctrine.

The music over the years has always carried a message that sympathises with the struggle and tribulations of the ghetto sufferer and the persecution of the Rastaman and repatriation to Africa etc.

But it has also consistenly promoted a "live in peace and harmony" and "love you fellow man" attitude.

Todays waive of singers/toasters seem to preach a more negative and menacing message that gun culture and the use of violence is the best way to solve issues within their environment.

I know this is now a way of life and we live with it everyday but why glamourise it ?

IMO their is enough friction in the world without this type of message being sent out. What does it achieve other than helping to send another human being to an early grave.

So why show tolerance towards these singers and their music when the message they send shows no tolerance or respect towards their brother man.

Perfect love and understanding my not be the message of todays music. But if it was i`m sure the world would be a better place to live.

This is only my opinion, i`m sure you guys will disagree.

Respect

To me this seems to be the old "slackness" vs. "roots" debate. If you listen closely enough to the old you see a lot of the same themes in the new. Now, the difference is that these songs are distributed more widely than those of the past, thus reaching a wider audience. Lee Perry's "Puss-See-Hole" didn't reach as many as Admiral Bailey's "Punnany" did it? The overemphasis on the newer releases homophobia is another misnomer. These themes were covered within the culture by being deemed "batty boys." Now, violence. Well ones old revolutionary tunes had violent overtones didn't they? LP covers inspired by Black Liberation featured women/men with arms, what's the difference? Music is always a reflection of ones reality. If you don't like it. Don't listen, or better yet don't buy!

Hello.
i have to say some people in this forum has very good point of view i agree. of course i know the difference between roots reggae - dance hall - and new roots reggae i know the virgin island has a superp movement of ROOTS REGGAE BANDS they play like old style, real instruments, real recordings.
classic reggae bands like MISTY IN ROOTS has a 2001 killer album, GLADIATORS, UROY, MAX ROMEO, they still made real roots reggae, new reggae bands like MIDNITE, NASIO, DAWEH CONGO hey have awesome albums very conciousness well elaborated artist like LUCIANO he does excellent live shows with good lyrics but on studio sounds weak, i was trying to say before is WHERE IS THE HARMONY ON THE NEW OR RECENT REGGAE ARTIST WHERE?????
is not necesary to hear a entire album of sizzla to be scared, or capleton, turbulence among others if you are saying this guys represent the reggae right now am sorry but the reggae is over at least exist people who loves roots reggae like the reggae in this web site i dont consider those new and recent artist whants love and equality theyr lyrics are violent, racist, homofobic, guns, butts, blood, gang war,etc etc etc.
i think the influence of RAP, HIP HOP, RAGGMUFFIN in young rastas change the mistic of reggae some time ago i went to jamaica a few months ago with great ilusion to see the realytie and see places like studio 1, channel 1, MARLEY house musseun, TOSH place, record shops you know all the famous places of reggae but I REALIZED IN JAMAICA ROOTS REGGAE IS DEAD.
IF you want to call me crazy go head.

just a few artist keep the real vibe just a few...
