My fav is Strictly Dub.

Regarding the vs Scientist LPs there was a tendancy to credit dubs to the most popular mixer at the time. Given that Scientist was flavour of the month then why would Jammy be credited if he didn't mix some of it?

Scientist was the up-and-comer, Jammy$ was a much more established name at the time, and the clash was gimmick.....everyone loves a fight. The up-and-comer knocking out the existing champ is a narrative used successfully for books and movies, why not records?

Greensleeves knew how to market records, from the concept right down to the cover art. And marketing is all about selling things.

Very nicely put.
Well, since I began this thread, I guess I should put my two cents in...my favorite is Kamikaze Dub...I like it because it's different than the rest.

+1, this one is a pure quality. "Kamikaze Dub" (Trojan) is another good one, although you have to not be bothered by his excessive use of the phaser effects....some people don't like it for that reason.
Another vote for Kamikaze Dub. Love the phase and flange effects

There seem to be very few records where Prince Jammy gets sole mixing/engineering credits for the whole LP

my vote goes to:

(1) umoja love and unity (deb)
(2) in the light dub (hungry town)
(3) cry tuff dub chapter 2
(4) fatman vs shaka (live & love)
(5) africa must be free by 1983 dub (rockers international)

Did Jammy really mix Crytuff Dub chapter II?

According to this interview with Adrian Sherwood not:

He says that:
"I mixed all the Cry Tuff Dub Encounter albums and I never got credit for it because it wasn’t really hip at the time."

My problem with Jammy as an engineer is that I never really get what his style is. Perhaps my ears aren't tuned to pick up on the nuances but I think the other great engineers have a style that's quite easy to pick out: Tubby, Perry, Scientist, Errol T, Mad Professor etc

Never managed to get what was Jammy's style on the boards. He has had sublime mixes like on the Rasses dub LP, to rather wild mixes as on the DEB LP's. Several of his dub albums I think are incredible but they could as well have been mixed by anyone else in a sense.

Anyone that has any input to this? Perhaps some pin-pointing of details that are typical Jammy.

I find the same thing to be true. I would have to listen to a few random Jammy LPs in a row to get a feel, but to me he sounded like a less adventurous (usually) combination of King Tubby and Errol T.
As you said, however, his mixes often sound quite anonymous and if I didn't know better, would usually guess Scientist or King Tubby.

Yes. Jammy really done some strong LPs, but if I need to choose only one, then I go with "Strictly Dub", too.
