i do not like this new reaggae too..

i listen to the old ones too,...
so you are not alone.,..
and i also think sizzla for example earns a lot of money..


the reason of this violence lyrics i do not know..
maybe it is money-maybe sizzla gets frustrated of babylon system..

but the thing is to fight against babylon and his violent-system you cannot do with violence..

if we the small people ..that we dont have "importand" things to say would get togehther and give love one another-the world would be a better place..

I absolutely agree to what you posted on the forum. I feel the exact and same way as you, even if I don't know all the sub-genres of the new reggae or Jamai stuff. You talk about positive lyrics and sunny instruments: well, I think that that is what we lost in this music during the years. That's why I listen a lot to those classics from Studio One or Trojan. Purely rasta or not, this music was made with a lotta love and you can hear it. Now, it seem that the new reggae is made for huge club soundsystems with only one purpose: make people feel something sexy in their butt region... And the discourse, sometimes, is near to that one from those childish hip hop tracks promoting violence and sex. One love my friend, and continue to listen to real roots.

yes i agree this new so called reggae artist mostly new generations of jamaicans are so influenced by rap & hip hop gangster life plenty of violence with awful electronics sounds they miss the real vibe and mistic of reggae roots music.
also i think the heavy tendencie of young generations rastas for be members of the ultra-orthodox bobo order they have strong point of view sometimes very limitated they only see in black & white.
i dont want to missrespect no one here this is a forum fell free to explain your point of view in a democratic and legitime way.

Even back in the 60s they were talking about violence,bob marley(hooligans,rude boys), desmond dekker (007 shnty town), about sex, lee perry(doctor dick)phylis dillon(dont touch my tomato). maybe not to the same degree, but it been there in all the genres! our genraton is all about violence, thats why artist talk about it so much! know your roots.. of course the muic is not the same. but its like that with all kinds of music.. rock, rap, etc.its not as good as it was back then! money changes things, people! its babylon! dont you see!!!!!

In the past many reggae, ska and rocksteady artists have sung stuff that isn't really roots.

But the overall vibe, and the course of reggae music was undeniably a biblical one, it was one of love and respect.

reggae music was the embodiment of the biblical order to "sing joyous praises to God accompanied by loud cymbals and drums" - that was done, and done good, in the 70s.

Sadly, today, this 'real' reggae is rare. Mainstream music is now all about greed, sex, strife, violence and me me me.

While many roots reggae artists probably failed to have lived the message they preached, at least they preached it.

Today yout man (and yout woman) are bombarded by music, and images, that reinforce their mistaken view that all that matters is to serve thyself, to eat more, earn more, to have more sex and to satisfy the senses, not the soul.

This is modern life. But it don't mean it is right.

For me, concious sounds will always be the best sounds - (OK OK!! I absolutely LOVE lovers rock too, especially in the Sugar Minott stylee!)
