I am looking for different tunes made on the "Strange Things" riddim. I am preparing a special riddim selection for my show and I will include this riddim. I would appreciate it if anybody could point out some songs done on this riddim to listen
I already know the following, but the more I collect, the merrier
John Holt - Strange Things
Freddie McGregor - Jah Will (BIG TUNE THIS !!!)
Mykal Rose - Hot Hot
I've always seen Junior Dan's »Jah Light« as a cut of the rhythm. But I've been corrected on this by Inyaki (the most tuned ears in reggae?) – still I think it's worth a mention for its similarity. Incredible song as well. When the deep bass drops on it on a sound system. Turns your spine to dust.
Man, I listen to Reggae since 1991 now, but there's still SO MUCH killer 70s stuff I never heard. There's still enough to discover for the next 30 years at least.
I listened to that John Holt original on youtube, and as always I only know the 80s dancehall versions of this song: Junior Reid "Strange Things" from the Boom-shaka-lack LP for Jammy's.
It's the same lyrics, Junior just sings it a bit different. Or isn't it the same riddim? I got shitty speakers here at the office, don't hear the bassline, so apologies if it's on another riddim. Nice backing by the Hi-Times-Band anyway.
Don't know if it fits right after the John Holt in your upcoming mix, Thomas. But too good a tune to be ignored imho (if it is the right riddim).

I think it depends on the version: John Holt did this tune for Coxsone but also for Phil Pratt. The Junior Dan cut sounds to me indeed like the Studio1 version, though slowed down and probably in a different key.
On Phil Pratts cut (Sunshot) the bassline is slightly different - and heavier! Compare them on Youtube...
