Echo and Sugar Minott - any relation

Is it coincidence or are Lincoln 'Sugar' Minott and Echo Minnott related?

Sugar and echo are not related. The Minott after their name is sort of like a nick-name, or a handle. Just like a lot of dj have the word ranking before their name(Ranking Ann, Ranking Joe, etc.) Minott is just an add-on to their name.

Often are artist will adopt part of their inspiartions name. Some are given it because of the their resemblance to an artist. Buju is called Buju BANTON because of his style being based on BURRO "Da Original" Bantons's. Or with Jr Demus and Chaka Demus coming from Nicodemus. I suspect that this may be the case here. There are also instances of family relations like Jr. Cat's name coming from Super Cat(his older brother).But Minott is actually Sugar's last name (Lincoln Minott) while Echo's name is Noel Phillips. While this doesn't rule out that the could be related I don't think that's the case.

So when used as a 'handle' what does Minott actually mean?

And by calling himself 'Echo Minott' is noel Phillips saying he is 'echoing' Sugar? Like, following in his footsteps?

i think minott is just a surname then it was adopted by other artists.
